Probably not tons but if he's not going to get in the 1st team bar FA Cup ties (which looks unlikely) then it make sense to free that money up for other uses.

He would appear to be 4th choice right back at the minute behind two utility players. I'd personally rather have a young player in that position.

Typically RFC fickle fans can only think to make derogatory and totally irrational comments about a player who has played exactly 135 minutes in a Reading shirt.

I sincerely hope that any potential suitors or transfer targets do not read some of the utter cr*p that is spouted by some on here about their perceived ability, effort, professionalism etc. I know what a turn-off it would be to me if I was considering a move !!

As it happens, De La Cruz was once considered the golden boy of Ecuadorian football alongside Agustin Delgado and Segundo Castillo. He is good in the tackle, has pace, good vision, likes to maraud up the wing Murty fashion and is known as a neat passer of the ball.

I suggest that like the other fringe players, who will be given a run-out tonight, that some of the hobnob knee jerkers at least reserve judgement on players such as De La Cruz until he has been given a chance to show his worth. It may also be worthwhile doing a bit of homework, or god forbid, attend a reserve match!, before this sort of drivel is beaten out on food encrusted computer keyboards !

FWIW, I thought he had a great game at Upton Park earlier this season, but then perhaps that game may have been a bit too far to travel for some of our 'armchair experts' on here !

indeed you cannot fully judge someone who hasnt had a run of games ....... but it is difficult to see when he will come in (apart from cup games and injuries) when the team is doing so well

I agree he had a good game at West Ham. But the fact still remains that he is 4th choice poss 3rd for the right back spot. Gunnarsson and Bikey have started ahead of him and neither are right backs. If he is not, as seems to be the case, going to challenge for a regular 1st team spot then you have to question how it benefits us having him ahead of say Osano or another young defender.

he did ok when we beat man city

1. He didn't play against Man City
2. He DID play away at West Ham, with Etherington having an absolute field day. If West Ham's forward line could have hit a barn door, we'd have lost that game comfortably with the amount of space and crosses Etherington had.

Platypuss Mother Teresa also did a great deal of voluntary work, but I wouldn't want her at right back.

I concur. Her best position is in "the hole" just behind the strikers.

Spot on Stranded, my point was simply, lets give this guy a chance before like everyone else who comes in to the team for a bit part performance we slate him to high heaven.

Regardless of any players ability, I bet it is not at all easy coming into a side such as ours at the moment, full of confidence, lots of skill, very quick. mobile and agile with bags of potential.

Let's just wait and see. I for one am looking forward to tonights endeavors with some untested talent in the side.
