Please can someone write me two or three paragraphs on TODAYs match and tell me what De La Cruz did wrong cos I sure as hell can't find too much :? Alright he's no Murty and on the whole has been rubbish but today he was ok. Nothing special but ok. Made a great challenge in the first half, looked ok in posession, got rid of it when needed, kept hold of it when possible.

The only thing Iw ould fault him for was getting done for pace a couple fot imes, that's not just today that's him generally not being very quick.

As I posted elsewhere DLC seems to get loads of stick and probably rightly so, but he hasnt got a bad record whenhe has started for us:

2 wins, 2 defeats and a draw.

Given that one defeat was away at Anfield and the other was the 4-0 magic show that is Arsenal, his stats arent too bad.

FWIW.....As another poster has already said, I thought he had a decent game at West Ham too (seen Murty have far worse ones).

I too thought he was OK last night. Didn't set the world or fire but was functional. He got caught a couple of times but also did some excellent covering work. For example, first half when a Burnley player had beaten Sodje and was bearing in on goal he came around very well to nick the ball away from him.

The fact is he's not going to get many starts ahead of Murty and realisticaly he is only here as cover. We've got 3 specialist right backs, one is playing fantastically, one is adaquate and one if a pile of shite.

Halls should be shown the door as soon as possible, but I'd keep DLC unless we sign another specialist right back (e.g. Halford)

I know we've got Gunnersson and Bikey who can play there but they are also covering other positions and if we had a Newcastle style injury crisis we'd dangerously exposed.

His positioning and passing are not good enough for the Premiership, simple as. He can't help the fact that he's just not good enough, he'll do as cover for Murty/Shorey, just as long as that cover isn't required for too long.

Probably his least ineffective game so far.

As Stranded said, there were a couple of good moments covering defensively. He was ok in posession, giving the ball away at times but also finding the front two quite consistently. He also looked slow, one dimensional going forward (which is usually his strength), and beaten far too easily by, I think, Steve Jones.

Don't forget this was a pretty average Burnley side, no where near an average Premiership side, which is the level we need our squad players to be able to compete. I've still seen nothing from De La Cruz to suggest he's a better squad player than taking a chance on Osano, but having said that, I think a decent right back is something Coppell needs to add to the squad.

He's only only the wage bill so we can play 11 v 11 in training.

Couldn't agree more with this. The guy has hardly had a chance because of Murty's form and you don't get the number of international caps he has got for being crap. In my view far more disappointing was the debut peformance of Golbourne. There is a whole lot of difference in starring for a Div 2 team and at times he looked very uncomfortable last night.

At last some sense on the DLC matter !!

Agreed he didn't set the world on fire last night, but he was actually a lot better than Goldbourne, Sodje or Pearce (after he came on we were very fragile in defence).

Why can't people just accept that we need to have some depth and versatile cover in our squad and the likes of Bikey and De La Cruz can offer that in defence and midfield.

Apart from his goal, I thought Sodje was awful and would be frightened stiff if he got a start in the Prem in the heart of our defence.

Goldbourne was very dissapointing too, but he still has time to learn and improve. The injury enforced absence of Aaron Brown was a shame as I would like to see more of him after his rave reviews on loan at Bournemouth.

All in all a good run-out, but not a classic game for any of our players. Coppell, I trust in you !!

DLC detractors can Oxf*rd off, until we have a better solution for defensive cover.

DLC was good last night, defensively pretty good, didnt make any rickets and saved our bacon on a couple of occasions
considering how often he has played thought he did well

slagging off pearce, sodje and goldbourne is daft, thought they all did ok
they arent getting games, and you cannot just throw 4 people together and expect them to understand each other like sonks and ivar do

goldbourne was good, set up the 3rd goal, and only a couple of mistakes
clearly needs more games to be proper support for shorey, but jeesus guys, lay off him

Ball knocked back into our defence, bit of time, bit of space, first time 'touch' 40 yards into touch. He did that once or twice.

Other than that, looked OK. Nothing special. Some chances to show a decent footballing head, but some of his first time passes were truly

I thought Golbourne got forward well, but didn't defend half as well, Pearce looked like an 18, 19 year old making his debut and Sodje did well, but wasn't really forced into doing much.

Not slagging Golbourne off, just saying that judging by last night's performance he was not very good. I'm sure he will become better but the point I was making is that he can't play the same way he did at Wycombe against medoicre Div2 opposition to the standard of football played last night. Has a long long way to challenge Shorey for his place.

I think you have been spoilt by watching Shorey. Golbourne was good (better in the first half) and needs more experience. I didn't see him beaten too many times and he contributed to the attack as well.

1. Pearce had a decent game, where did he make a mistake?
2. Golbourne looked excellent on the ball, just needs a few games to get up to speed and eradicate the errors as he's also young.
3. You aren't going to tell me that De La Cruz was good last night. He was improved by his standards, but his standards are as low as the conference. Caught out of position and murdered by Jones a few times first half, awful distribution, kept kicking the ball out for unnecessary corners and generally looked poor. He made one or two decent interceptions for a change, which was his improvement.

didnt think those corners were unnecesary, just safety first, as coppell would have instructed, average distribution-some good, some aimless but nothing on some of sonks' hoofs, never murdered by anyone, caught out of position as much as murts in any regular game-saying he's conference standard is just being daft, he is a good CCC right back, who will be ok cover unless their right winger is as quick as aaron lennon

and again, two or three games over 6 months isnt really fair to judge the guy on, if we had thought like that about previous players our current team would look a little different
