NO LONGER A RUMOUR - Alan Bennett

by Stranded » 16 Jan 2007 08:56

According to the EP today, Coppell is very keen to raid Cork again for this 24 year old centre back. We've apparently bid £100,000 but Cork are looking for £300,000.

Could be a good bit of business if our previous dealings with Cork are anything to go by.

Can't see much (if anything) regarding the rumour on the Cork boards.

Maybe one of the Cork lads who frequent the board could shed a bit more light on him...

Can't see what a 72 year old actor and author would bring to the team myself but if SC thinks it'll work then go for it.

He's a fairly decent centre-half.
Harry Redknapp and Sam Allardyce were over looking at him last summer. After watching Reading v Everton last Sunday, it's a new keeper you need.

Not if you're happy with a keeper who comes off his line, with his arms at chest height and can be outjumped by Andy Johnson.
We've got no keepers for sale, by the way.

Sure.....

Bennett is the best centre-half in the eircom League in Ireland. He started over playing with us as a midfielder but about 3/4 years ago he moved to centre-back and never looked back since. He's been part of the best defence in Ireland for the past 2 years.

Like Kevin Doyle was, he's the best player in his position in our league.

During the summer we played Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League qualifier in Cork. Harry Redknapp and Sam Allerdyce were in attendance to watch Serbia striker Nicola Zigic. We lost 1-0 to an OG but they came away from the game talking about Cork City's Alan Bennett.
