It appears that his role is to ruffle the opposition with his energy and "in the face" style but after the game on Saturday I felt myself wishing that he hadn't caried out the two footed tackle on the corner flag as part of the goal celebration. It seemed very inappropriate after all the aggression that had surrounded his clash with Gillespie.

Reading had a superb disciplinary record last season with very few bookings and (if I am correct) no sendings off. This time there have been more cards and more ontroversies. Most of these have been as a natural result of the increased pressure on the premiership game and Reading can claim to remain a fair team. However, we don't really need players to act over-aggressively or in a provocative way.

I am sure that Messers Madejski and Coppel will agree - and will probably have a quiet word with the player.

What a load of absolute garbage. I've openly criticised Hunt in the past, but he did nothing wrong on Saturday and has played well since the Christmas period. If you're out of order for mistiming a tackle or getting elbowed in the face then you might as well not be able to breathe and all footballers are out of order! What a stupid, stupid post.

Despite the slating you've gotten I admit at the time I also winced a bit when seeing this. Seemed to me to be an incredibly daft thing to do... that pole must have been inches from taking the lino's eye out... the Oliver Holt press bandwagon would have just loved that...

With regards to the elbow it was completely unjustified and deserveda red card, however as someone else said, Gillespie wouldn't have reacted like that for no reason. Perhaps Hunt does have a Dennis Wise streak? As far as arguing with Warnock was concerned he needed to walk away, as Sidwell and Murty were trying to get him to do. Some refs will book players for that sort of thing.

You're right. The sooner we can have robot players with no emotions the better.

If that's the most constructive response that you can come up with then your not proving that Hunt's actions were not unjustified.

Setting aside the antics for a moment. I thought Hunt was going to be a fringe player at best. He has got his chance and has been superb.

If you look at the players we have out we are performing way above most peoples expectaions.

I saw on here a post after the chelsae game saying "look at footage from behind the goal". I did and thought the keeper caught hunts foot and so caused the collision. It was nothing more than a nasty accident, I just wish that motd would review the footage from behind and the goal and clear him. (not going to happen ). Most right thinking people know that there was no intent and i am glad that the keeper is back so soon.

Hunt is an excellent hassler, but he never postures, never shouts, never slides in recklessly, never feigns injury, never moans at the referee or disputes decisions, he is just there, all the time, in their faces, nipping away at the opposition.

To me it is ridiculous to suggest he is a dirty player, or that he should calm down, or anything of the sort. He might not be the most gifted player on our team but to me he seems like an absolute model pro who uses everything he's got in his locker, 100% every game.

nuff said.. if people want to act in the way that gillespie did then so be it, as on saturday...its them who get sent off and its us with the 3 points

When he came on as sub last season he nearly always injected excitement, in spite of his shortcomings. Now I would definitely pay money just to see him play. Warnock would have identified him as a source of nuisance for SheffU. Didn't you all see it? Gillespie went straight for Hunt at the throw-in and started pushing him. Hunt was merely trying to stand his ground. And to the poster who somehow doubted that there was any contact with the elbow, GILLESPIE ELBOWED HUNT IN THE FACE. Maybe they had some 'previous'. But in any case it's ludicrous to assign any blame to Hunt in this case. It's like saying someone was asking to be bullied.

He said 'the thing about a player with so much talent, they often have a frivolous side' he went on to say 'look at the likes of George Best, Paul Gascoigne and our own Robin Friday, they all had huge talent but also an uncontrolable wild side!'.
