I should imagine that until the North and South stands are extended it will go straight back but still be slightly curved along the top.

From the plans, it looks like theres going to be some staggered rows, and the corners extended up as well to make the stadium more streamlined.

Will there be a need for extra Stewards. It will be a long way for them to walk from the bottom up!

This might just be my preference, but I suspect most people would much prefer to watch football from a side rather than an end. This will particularly apply to the new supporters the club will need to turn into a long-term fanbase who currently get their fix only from a side-on view on TV.

So IMHO the club might shoot itself in the foot if it expands either or both ends first rather than the East, as for most potential "customers" the side-on view offers a more attractive "product". Quotes as I'm sure that's how RFC now views things.

Interesting photo in the latest When Saturday Comes of the biggest stand at Leeds with the top tier not even in use these days.

The current plan is for the East stand extension first.

So what's the capacity going to be after the expansion?

planning.reading.gov.uk The erection of extensions to the east, north and south stands of the existing Madejski Stadium, to provide 12,400 additional seats, enclosing approximately 31,349 square metres of new floor space, the re-alignment of Shooters Way and associated engineering works, and the alterations to the layout of the existing parking areas.

Just shy of 36,600 when all works completed - if those figures work out to the seat.

The east stand extension will apparently be 6000 extra seats, thus resulting in an estimated 3,200 additional seats on the north and south stands.

That east stand will look awesome with it remaining one tier.

Can't wait to watch the changes as the weeks go by. 8)

Let's hope the council doesn't put up stiff opposition.

Anyone know why there is an Application Ref. 07/00095/FUL and a second for what appears to be the same thing (Ref. 07/00110/FUL) filed a couple days later?

I have been told that during the expansion the Jazz club will be closed for 6 months + . It will also be doubled in size during this period.
My girlfriend is related to the owner who told this to me yesterday.

I think what he means is that it doesn't have a 'social club' feel to it.

He's got a point. you have to ask WTF Jazz Music has to do with RFC.

Why don't they have pictures of club heroes & great moments for the club rather than a picture of some twat playing a trumpet?

STAR Campaigns From what I understand, they'll build out behind the East stand first - so there will probably be access issues during this time which will cause complications for all - I think patience getting in and out will be required - even more than now!

But my assumption is that the current roof will be taken off and the new one put on during the close season - however, that's purely an assumption but as a PM that's the only way I can think of to do it.

Has the schedule for the building work effectively been put back then?

I seem to remember the online brochure which outlined the plans and scheduling said that building works would commense once this season finished, so that the structure of the stand was in place by August. The finishing touches of adding seats and doing the concourse would then be done between August and Christmas so as not to be disruptive to fans. And the whole stand was then to be opened in January, with the same timescale for the two ends the following summer/autumn?
