At first I thought it was terrible news and couldn't see the logic in it..he obviously isn't a player for long term and we are almost safe from relegation for there would be no need to panic buy as a few more points will surely be achieved.

Then I actually thought about it... is Sonko's injury likely to keep him out for a bit longer than anticipated and if so there is a lot of weight put on Ivar's shoulders. Bikey has had a couple of good games at centre back and damp right awful one last night and from what I have seen Sodje at this stage is not upto the grade.

I think Coppell is inwardly thinking (and would of course never say in public) that we actually have a really good shot at getting a European place. Ivar need a rest (looked out of sorts at times last night) and also an experienced partner to play along side him. Duberry fits the bill perfectly, in form, experienced and from what I have seen and read too a great professional.

Good purchase Coppell... spot on... yet again

Mr Angry A pretty semsible purchase for, what in January, is the price you pay.

It seems to suggest that Sonks' injury is maybe worse than so far hinted at by the club, and, as PP said, if we have 4 quality central defenders to choose from where is the problem? We then have the luxury of being able to rest players as and when appropriate. This will also apply when Doyle is fit and Kitson fully match fit for the forwards.

Halford is one for the future, which just leaves 1 other bit of business to tie up........and one that MAY explain the Chairmans' comments of record signing.

Sidwell.

I heard alot about that last night at the game and if it's true i will be surprised that he played last night. never know.

I think Mr Angry is intimating that Sidwell will sign a record contract with the club in terms of pay.
Sidwell signing a record contract? What as Kevin Girdlers replacement?

Duberry made some interesting comments in December

Loan signings Lee Hendrie, Patrik Berger, Salif Diao and Andy Griffin have helped The Potters climb to sixth in The Championship with four consecutive wins.

They are all due to return to their Premiership clubs in the New Year but Duberry sees no reason why Stoke's form should suffer as a result.

"It is a worry that come January this team could be broken up  but we'll deal with that when the time comes," said the former Leeds man.

"I'm sure the manager is planning ahead to that time. But while we've got them here no one is thinking of that. They are Stoke players and have all fitted in very well.

"It's a short-term fix but hopefully come January, when they are all due to go back, the confidence at the club is so high that other players know what they have to do.

"We've got quality players like Jeff Whitley who have found himself out of the team, while Peter Sweeney was our best player in the first seven games of the season.

"He can't get back in because of Lee Hendrie, so we do have good players who are itching to get involved again."

Duberry feels The Championship is wide open this season and Stoke have as good a chance as anyone of finishing in the play-off places.

"Last season Reading were a cut above but this season there isn't a team that has stood out," 8) he explained.

"This league is like crabs in a barrel  - everyone is pulling each other down.

"Three defeats and you're down at the bottom end, while three wins and everyone is talking about the play-offs.

"We're getting into a habit of winning and hopefully that will

What's his disciplinary record like, for some reason I seem to have the impression he likes an early bath once or twice a season.....

No reds this season. one last, two the season before.

Reds are an occupational hazard for normal centre backs.

Duberry's a grass.

He'll be pushing up daisies before the end of February.

Coppell's Right Footed 11 People continuing to question this is ridiculous? why are people making out 800k to be a lot of money has no one realised that next season if you finished bottom of the prem you would be guaranteed at least 66.6 million in tv rights and premiership placing? and you lot are moaning about 800k for a centre back who is captain of the best defence in the championship? christ almighty.

Hes 31 yes but even till the end of the season, if he gets us a few wins then whats everyone moaning about

Completely agre. We may be pretty much safe from relegation and guaranteed TV rights for last year, but a few league places makes a reasonable difference for prize money (don't know numbers off the top of my head). If Duberry gets us a single win which sees us finish a couple of places higher, he might end up paying for himself.

800k?

I'll have to go with others and Reading FC on this one.

I'm not totally convinced.

But I can always change my mind.

Does anyone think we will sign someone else as well as Duberry today?

There isn't a weak possibility that we might, though, then again, there couldn't possibly be a strong chance that we will, or not, as the case may be.

Do I make myself clear?

I prefer to think that there is a slim chance that we definitely could do although on the other hand I have to concede that there is every chance we probably won't.

Alternatively we may have already done so although I think it more likely that we haven't.
