Chelsea substitution: Ashley Cole replaced by Wayne Bridge (serious injury).

Wayne Bridge, or any of the other top 4 clubs left back reserve english players will make it before Shorey. This is Steve McClaren, remember.

No doubt it is Stephen Hunt's fault, that monster.

Come to think of it has anybody seen McClaren scouting for players at any matches ? i.e face in the crowd on MOTD

Leighton Baines would be more likely, since he has played in the Premier League for a season longer. Gareth Barry, even.

Don't think so, Baines would be last with how Wigan are performing, McClaren should be picking players on current form, not price tag. I believe Matt Taylor would be ahead of Shorey aswell. If worse comes to worse, McClaren would probably just play someone out of position instead of bring someone new in. Maybe he will try another one of those proven formations.

Barrys been there had his chance and Baines, can you imagine if he had a bad game the fans would say why pick a player from a team who's lost 8 in a row

Taylor seems to be converting to left wing now though

Lescott has played some LB this season. Also, I'm watching a very neat performance from Warnock right now.

I thought Shorey gave Baines a masterclass in left-backery last night but still no chance of a call up.

I do hope so. It will not only show how far Shorey has come as a player but how far Reading have come as a club. I know its only one player but if we can establish ourselves as a regular Premiership club with young English talent then who knows, maybe more??? Lita and Halford could be in with a chance.

There still a great deal of competition to cover that one position. I think Bridge will claim Ashley Coles starting 11 spot with Baines as squad player purely because he has 1 extra season in the top flight under his belt.

If McClaren knows his football then he'd have to agree that Shorey has been the most constant performing English left-back in the premier league all season...

Agree that Baines will make it first. And deservedly so. I rate Baines highly and if I were Coppell would spend millions to get him, then cry when I had to pick one of him or Shorey each week.

In the past I've laughed at this suggestion as Bridge, Baines, Barry and Konchesky (and possibly Warnock and Richardson) were all in front of Shorey in the pecking order.

Looking at the form of those players sides and the glimpses of the players individual form I'm starting to think Shorey might stand a chance of a squad place for the upcoming friendly.

Good chance for Shorey to get a call up, but Bridge and Baines are likely to be ahead of him in the pecking order.
