Trigger Konchesky ahead of Shorey? Konchesky is awful!

And not only that, he's been dropped by West Ham. So he's not going to get a call up.

Obviously Bridge will be favourite to play. As for reserve left back I would be gutted if Baines got in ahead of Shorey because he's just not as good. Barry would be a little odd considering he doesn't often play left-back these days, though he used to do ok there. Have to say Warnock will probably get the nod as he has a few years on Shorey, is playing at a bigger club and, to be fair, will probably go on to be a better player.

Still, it's only a friendly, Shorey has got a lot of good press this year... and if McClaren is ever going to have a look at him now would be the time...

Shorey getting an unlikely call up would be the only thing that would convince me to watch this complete waste of everybody's time and money. England competetive games are bad enough but friendlies are an absolute joke. Is anybody anywhere even slightly interested?

Have a look at the goalkeeper against Spain and see if you still believe McLaren picks his side based on current form

Of course it's not based on current form. If it was then the England team would change every game.

It would be great, but I expect the ginger banker McClaren to select Baines, Taylor and even fcuking Phil Neville over Shorey.

Good call, reckon Neville's pretty much a certainty to start this one.

JimmytheJim Leighton Baines would be more likely, since he has played in the Premier League for a season longer. Gareth Barry, even.

Looking at tuesday night, i should hope Baines doenst get in the team, the amount of space he gave Little, Lita and Long to run into was amazing. Barry is a quality player, he would get in

Interesting discussion.....only 12 months ago I recall a thread asking if any of our current squad would get a call up for England....?

Many laughing responses and a few stating that 'none' of the current squad would 'ever' be selected for an England call up...

We really have come along way in such a short space of time...wonder what we'll be saying in 12 months...? Can't believe we don't have at least 1 player in the England squad perhaps...?

I'd love to see it and watch all the HNA Massive spewing "I never doubted him, fantastic player, always has been"

cmonurz All mentioned on this thrad, but I think the following are ahead of Shorey (rightly or wrongly)....

Cole
Bridge
Baines
Barry
Warnock
Konchesky

Doesn't that list make Shorey one of the WORST English left-backs in the Premiership?
It would be great for us to have an England squad player whilst they are at Reading (Dixon and Webb had to move away first).
I still think that Kitson has a squeak of a chance of being picked one day-only Heskey of the more physical strikers would be just ahead of Kitson at this stage IMHO.
All the other strikers are litle 'uns apart from the very tall one who, despite his height, is not a great physical presence.

The thing with SHorey and I'm not sure if it's n advantage for him or not, but he's a very different type of full back Cole. Where as Bridge, Baines, Taylor, Konchesky are all similar to Cole in the way their game is very much about pace and power, where as Shorey doesn't have the pace but is a much better footballer. I get the feeling that England coaches would feel that Shorey's pace would leave him expossed on an international level, but to be honest I thought his lack of pace would be shown up in the Prem, but there haven't been many wingers flying past him this season.

Not bad for an 3rd division reserve player.

Konchesky is terrible - Therefore won't be in

Barry rarely plays at left back

Warnock has only played a total of 143 minutes of Premiership football this season

Baines is playing in a side that has conceeded 18 goals in their last 6 league games and lost their last 8/9

Also, not that it matters a great deal, but Reading are the highest placed team out of those players' clubs except for Chelsea obviously.

He probably won't get in, but should be in with a shout.

To be honest, if I were a neutral, any of the suggested players apart from Bridge and Barry would leave me wondering about England's prospects for the future, and I include Shorey in that. We're talking about a team with pretensions to being the best in the world. On reflection, Barry does seem like the right choice. He has played LB a few times this season, and he is a cut above the competion in player quality. Another name unmentioned so far is Hoyte, although he seems to have prospered on the right far more than he promised on the left.

May I say that having seen the Cole injury last night, I think we are about to find out that he has joined the unenviable ACL club currently sporting members such as Sonko.

Hyperextended the knee, looked like an ACL rupture caused once again by someones boots getting stuck in the ground.

Do they both wear studs or blades? I have a theory that blades knacker knees more easily.
