Because any international manager, especially one as conservative as McClaren, is going to prefer the guy who plays for Chelsea and has had time at international level over the guy who plays for Reading and... hasn't. You really think the England squad is chosen on merit? Besides, as good as Shorey is, he's not quite Ashley Cole is he.

Neville is predominantly a CM player now though, and when he does play FB it's on the right. Bridge is the only left back in the entire squad with Barry being picked as a midfielder. Very odd...

Bridge is the LB and either Barry or Neville can sub there if needed. Personally I thin Barry is clearly the best of the rest and has been short-changed on his England chances. He has played at LB quite a few times this season.
