selfish i know ... i am rather pleased that shorey does go unnoticed at international level. Means he doesnt play loads of extra games, cant get injured on duty.

mr maclaren just ignore us please, we are reading, surely it is not cocievable that any of our players are remotely good enough for your team

RobRoyal Yup, Phil Neville's in there and also Gareth Barry. Oh well. To be fair it's not like Shorey's got a real chance at an international career, it would just have been nice to see some recognition and a night on the bench before Cole returns.

If Lita continues his scoring form it shouldn't be too long before we have a full international

why not?!! if he gets his chance and takes it there is no reason why not!!

Seriously? Because any international manager, especially one as conservative as McClaren, is going to prefer the guy who plays for Chelsea and has had time at international level over the guy who plays for Reading and... hasn't. You really think the England squad is chosen on merit? Besides, as good as Shorey is, he's not quite Ashley Cole is he.

According to a Pompey fan that posts on another board that I am on, McClaren admitted that he hasn't viewed a single Pompey or Reading game this season in an interview to a local paper.

So there is the reasoning.

Wax Jacket
savage 4 england Phil Neville

50 caps, playing full back in a team that's done as well as us, versatile, actually got some pace unlike shorey, why not?

I'd rather try someone new.

Don't care if that's Baines, Shorey or Taylor. He's hardly set the world on fire, don't think he's going to prove he's suddenly become an outstanding full-back for England.

Silver Fox Have a look at the goalkeeper against Spain and see if you still believe McLaren picks his side based on current form

Of course it's not based on current form. If it was then the England team would change every game.

Well, I didn't think David James wouldn't even be in the squad!

Just shows how dumb Mclaren is. I don't like David James in an England shirt as he' never done well for them no matter how good his performances for his club, but Kirkland? You have to be joking.

Neville is predominantly a CM player now though, and when he does play FB it's on the right. Bridge is the only left back in the entire squad with Barry being picked as a midfielder. Very odd...

Bridge is the LB and either Barry or Neville can sub there if needed. Personally I thin Barry is clearly the best of the rest and has been short-changed on his England chances. He has played at LB quite a few times this season.

Mclaren is a twat. Do like Barton and Barry in there though - they deserve it...

I can't believe SSN even tipped Gary McSheffrey for a call up. No mention of Shorey.

obviously he didnt watch reading - wigan if he's included kirkLOLand, he had an absolute shocker. i never thought i'd say this but i'd rather see james in goal than robinson, the former has played a lot better this season than the latter.

you'd think if that was gonna happen it would have happened by now, considering the match is on Wednesday and the U21 game is tomorrow...

David James deserves a call up, and probably a start, but I guess McLaren is thinking of the future. But why Kirkland over Carson??
