Nezhen Sorry to put a dampner on this thread everyone, but although I absolutely admire Mr Mad and what he has done for 'little Reading', I know he provides funds to the Tory party and I for one would not want to share a pint with him or even give him the time of day !

Agreed! And how much he is doing for "little Reading" and how much for himself is open to question. As well as masses of kudos of publicity such as this (which he obvioulsy loves) he now has a saleable asset which is worth exponentially more than he paid for it.

JC The picture, best viewed from the private lift which lowers Madejski to the basement home of his Rolls Royce...

This comment has me a bit confused, is there an underground car park at the MadStad that no one knows about!?

May solve the parking problem

Mr Mad has a private car park at the hotel where he parks his long Roller.
Some match days you can see it being parked (by his driver, not him).
Access is via the normal car park outside the hotel, and the gate is a roll down affair - check it out next time you are at the stadium.
I don't think there's room for many cars in there. maybe just the one.

Some people speculate to accumulate; Mr mad could have got out ages ago - if he is enjoying his time in the sunshine now, so what? Only the narrow minded and petty could possibly harbour bitterness towards the guy.

Maybe those that do would like to start a movement to get say, Kevin Maxwell, to buy the club. Then they could look back to the good old days of having a Patrician owner - and a socialist to boot!! - who only had the welfare of the football club and its supporters in mind when his dad spent the Mirror Group Pension Funds to buy out Oxford Utd.

Oh wait...........

You mis-understand me - no bitterness towards him, and we'd certainly not be where we are now.

I just get a bit tired of the naievity of some people who seem to lap up the public image that JM is doing this all for the love of the town, all out of the kindness of his heart, and that's there's nothing in it for him.

Let no-one forget that he's not donating money to RFC, it's all in the form of loans.

Ahhh, it makes sense now. No pictures of the entrance of the carpark on the official site, Ill take a peek before the Pompy home game. Cheers.

Maybe if he WAS a donor to the Labour Party he would have all the gongs now, cos those people certainly seem to think that there should be "something in it for them" when they put their hand in their pocket.

Mr Mad is a businessman, first and foremost; live with it. I would rather have had a businessman in charge of my football club this last decade and a half then a fan - Freddie Sheppard or Doug Ellis anyone?? - and its got us to where we are now.

But because - shock, horror, he is a Tory - some morons on here think it means his achievements are lessened. Nice one.

Just don't come back on here in a couple of Years when the club has been bought out the president of Chinese FA or some dodgy Eastern European businessman wishing for the Mr Mad to return.

You did agree with the original comment which was centred around him being a tory though.

It's obvious to anyone with half a brain that Mr Mad is partly motivated by his ego and the profile that his god deads generates, but I'm sure there is quite a bit of truth in his philantropist ideals too.

Just be grateful, I don't think we could wish for a better chairman really, even if he's been a bit tight with the purse strings at times.

Apologies then, although I don't support the Tories myself JM has kept politics quite seperate from the football club so I can't have any argument there.

You'd like to think so - but from some of the comments on here a fair number obviously have less than half a brain, then.

Plus the official publicity machines likes to give the impression that he is doing it all out of the kindness of his heart - which is patently not true. Remember when we bought Leroy? That was presented as JM putting his hand in his pocket to find the extra money to buy Leroy for the club - whereas in fact it was just him making an additional loan to the club. Very devious presentation.

My comment was a joke really (read the Nicky Hammond appreciation society thread and then the Ron Grant thread on here a couple of weeks back and you'll see why).

I've actually had the pleasure of meeting Mr Mad on a couple of occasions, but I do think his politics stink. Having said that he has a lot of interesting things to say about Football on matchday prices, agents, player power, homegrown talent, media coverage and transfers, which coming from a man who knew sweet FA about football 20 years ago, shows why he is held in such high esteem in Reading. The FA and Football in general could do a lot worse than to listen to some of his suggestions on bringing the game back under some semblance of sane control.

If he changed his political colours, I'd be even more pleased with 'our John'

HEHE, sorry to disappoint you but so will you soon when the political parties become publicly funded.

Mr Mad probably feels the same about you - when was the last time he called you and invited you for a pint

Yes, I would feel so much better had he kept his millions and business acumen to himself back in 1990 and let RFC rot. But hey, he didn't. Get over it.

Ahhh didums! Has the nasty Tory made some money then boys, terrible.

Not handed anything to you? What a pity

Shame there are not to many well healed 'Tony's Cronies' knocking about willing to donate to the cause. Using their dosh to buy a few honours no doubt - much more desirable than a football club.

Alternativley you could get off your arses, earn a few million (must be easy Tory boy did it) and buy the club yourself.
