The Planning thing The erection of extensions to the east, north and south stands of the existing Madejski Stadium, to provide 12,400 additional seats to increase the overall number of seats to 36,900, enclosing approximately 31,349 square metres of new floor space, the re-alignment of Shooters Way and associated engineering works, and the alterations to the layout of the existing parking areas.

What happend to the 38,000 figure we all had then?

Best one to start with is this:

A new translucent roof, then.

Well I've spent some time reading through this...
http://62.6.180.132/AnitePublicDocs/00012676.pdf
...and nowhere can I see any statement about how they will actually do the construction during next season. Surely the roof will have to come off?

To give some perspective of the size of the South and North when completed both would hold in the region 8,000. That is alot for a single tier stand. The Kop at Anfield only holds 4,000 more and is the most famous single tier stand in the world.

When that gets knocked down in a few years time the North and South stands would be the largest single tier ends at any ground in the country.

I hope they get renamed because having them called the 'North' and 'South' stands will do them an injustice.

Thanks for that. The bits that I read were very interesting. Notable points are the translucent roof and uplighting onto it to highlight the architecture and the use of glass around the outside to replace some of the gaudy grey sheet metal (although this will remain in large parts.

On the transport front they want 49% of supports using buses (bit ambitious) and a train station at Green Park that we were promised in '98 has already been given planning permission and is due to be built by 2008.

So the actual capacity is 24,500 then, and not 24,200? :?

Now that will top it all off just luffly.

That will be the final piece of the construction.
They will build the extention behind the existing stand, which will cause no disruption inside the seated bowl, and the roof will be replaced in Summer 08 - or that was the plan of action, I recall.

It's definitely worth noting that the finished height at the East Stand mid-point will be almost twice as high as it is now!

worth noting from the new detailed designs seen in the above link that if you look at the North South Cross section (as seen via the West Stand) that The East Stand WILL have a hospitality suite, despite the club previously saying to the contrary. IMO good idea too.

Also worth noting the sheer size of the East Stand - Really looking good. Decision to be made mid march by the looks of things. IMO transport would be the only stopping point. Extra buses isnt enough - we need more park and ride.
