Is there any decent footage of him playing on the net or on tape? Heard so much about him, I know he was a great player but unfortunately never seen him play :( . Those who did are very privileged.

From some efforts I made a few years back it would seem the old itv southern may have some early 70`s RFC games archived away gathering dust.Tried myself to connect with the right people but no one could be arsed or have the clout to follow it up or get back to me.Mopst annoying.
It certainly was a privilege to see Robin in most of his Elm Park games + a few aways I went to as a teenager.Definately the most naturally gifted player I have ever seen by a country mile.

Despite our recent rise up the leagues, Robin Friday remains the greatest player ever to play for this club.

Irreplaceable.

I'm always interested to know how anyone can justify this kind of comment?

As great as he must have been, can anybody say without doubt that Friday would have held his own in the multinational premiership the current Reading squad is making look easy?

I always have a natural scepticism when I hear about how great sportsmen of the past were, it seems a lot easier to proclaim somebody as great when you only think of the highlights.

Possibly the greatest military figure who ever lived, but would Napoleon and his army survive 5 minutes in Basra? It's all relative.

He's also a liar (or lost his memory with his hair)! Robin Friday did not kiss the copper after scoring 'that goal' against Tranmere. The kissing copper routine was in a different game.

Simple. I have never seen a better player in a Reading shirt.

Do you doubt that George Best, Pele, Di Stefano, Moore, Finney etc were great players just because they played before you were born?

OK, just to clear some facts up and some errors in Richard's piece. The small piece of coverage shown is the game against Lincoln in 76. Friday did not actually score in that game. Goal shown was scored by Ray Hiron. BTW, Graham Taylor was Lincoln manager and Ian Branfoot was right back for Lincoln that day.

He also did not kiss the copper after scoring THE goal against Tranmere. That happened two season previously against Rochdale.
