Norfolk Royal I used to put my monkey boots on, get the train from Pangbourne to Tilehurst, get a 17 bus from outside the station, get off near Wantage Road, go in the 555 fish bar for a pie of unspecified origin, eat it, then pay 50 pence to get into the South Bank for a rabble rousing time of it all.
You can imagine how surprised I was a few years ago when I did this once more for old time's sake and discovered the ground had been demolished.

strap Do you know, I think the 555 may still be there!! Went down the Oxford Road recently in a cab for reasons I forget, got stuck in traffic, and went past lopads of old haunts. What was the name of the pub right next to the Battle Hospital? Not The Pond House, that's further down towards Tilehurst, not The Hew Inn either, think that's further into town. For the life of me i can't remember. There used to be a Chinese Restaurant a few doors down from that pub.
