Doyle in for Lita or Kitson?

by Royal Rother » 17 Mar 2007 17:10

For all Lita's admirable huffing and puffing and his instinct for goal (not that it was much in evidence today) we looked so much better when Doyle came on. His ability to retain possession and link up play is streets ahead of Lita's, isn't it?

I actually can't make up my mind whether I would prefer Kitson or Lita to start with Doyle, but Doyle has to start as soon as he's fit enough IMO.

think it's time to revert to first choice strikers: kitson and doyle, not that lita hasn't played well but i think thats our best partnership

All three had good moments, but Doyle oozed class when he came on. Kitson lacks touch around the goal at the moment, and while some of his link up play was admirable, I thought Lita got a lot more done today and is more of a threat.

Lita and Doyle have got to be our first choice strikers - look at the goal haul between them. Kitson may only have played a couple of games, but he's more the lone striker type...

Got to be Doyle and Lita. Kitson slowed us down terribly today - good for some games when we want to hold the ball up but helped contribute to a dire game today. Lita with Doyle will offer much more pace and play to our strengths.

Its all horses for courses.

Glad to see Doyle looking much better today when he came on and said he actually felt good today rather than the last two games where he hasnt felt too good.

Lita worked hard today as did Kit's but with no end product, this wasnt helped by lack of decent ball to both of them and th fact Marcus cant kick straight!!

To be Fair to Leroy, we did seem to spend all the second half hoofing it forward to him and expecting him to win in the air against Campbell & Primus! (in exactly the same way we did at Watford and it didn't work there, either!)

IMHO the problem today was that Leroy & Kits were alone up front - Little, Hunt and Sids seemed to be slow/reluctant to get forward to support them.

Spot on, and you do also have to give the oposition some credit, two big centre halves and two good fullbacks along with a man sitting just in the front of the back 4, it was always gong to be hard.

To be fair I thought that Hahneman's kicking was part of an intentional ploy to take advantage of Glen Johnsons weakness at heading - and I thought the ploy worked very, very well!

Some of Kit's link up was excellent, and he won so much ball in the air - but everyone is right, it's a GREAT problem to have!

Also, I think the substitutions were a bit "safe." I would have loved to have seen Leroy stay on and Doyle replace Hunty, with Kits playing slightly behind the two of them.

As indeed will we all I should imagine.

However, that doesn't stop some of us having our own opinions about the 3 main contenders.

The problem with not playing Kitson is that he does so much more than other strikers, he tackles back and is superb when defending corners. This something i never thought i would say.

I would play Doyle & Kitson personally, i think when 100% Doyle is our best striker.

Doyle and Lita.

Doyle does so much work and retains possession so well that he can create the time and space for Lita to feed off his work in the penalty area. It is no good expecting Lita to create his own chances he just isn't good enough for that, but I think Doyle can be a good foil / feed for him in time.

Kitson isn't as good as Lita as a finisher, and isn't as good as Doyle in retaining possession and running the channels, and isn't as fast as either of them, so for me he is 2nd string now. (For the time being anyway!)

Gotta be Doyle and Kitson. Lita is awseme to have on the bench, he can come on and change games. I just feel that Kitson and Doyle link up better together.

Kits trys the more audacious flick ons

he looks clumsy in aerial challenges, but wins more than Lits

Kitson is often found defending well

Leroy chases down the odd 50/50 ball

Today, Lita appeared to be up front on his own today too many times

but a lot of his pocession came from DK's lay offs

Kev could've given us the additional physical presence that we needed up front a darned site earlier had he come on sooner maybe?

but trying to hack your way through Sol and Linvoy...who knows?

Should Oster of come on earlier with Doyle?
Wasn't there, but on the radio it seemed a bit to late with 5 mins to go.
