RoyalBlue Was this the game where a whole load of them came charging across the pitch from the away seats just before kickoff? Jumped over the wall and into the Southbank before it all kicked off on the terraces?

I think you remember Bristol City from the early 80's when this happened. They ran across the pitch at the same time as the teams came out of the tunnel

One of my favourite Elm Park moments was watching a city fan get caught by old bill and literally dragged by his hair accross the pitch.

There was also a significant first for me that day. My mate and I needed somewhere to hide having been chased by a bunch of rabid city fans down one of the side streets and out onto the oxford road.

We ducked into Lovecare and after explaining our predicament were allowed to stay for a good 30 minutes.

I got quite an education that day

You should have grabbed some missiles to throw at them. A couple of well aimed rampant rabbits would have seen them off I should imagine.

Anyone know what the Pompy fan are saying about this on their forum or have they long forgotten about it?

Blimey I never realised we had a rivalry like this with Pompey.

And I never realised we were such weakboys in the 70s!!!

I'd love to see them try to deal with our firm nowdays. Seasiders.

to be fair it is a bit sad to be talking about some fight from 30 years ago!

Norfolk Royal I recall that day rather well as I still have a scar to prove it.

Got to the ground at around 1.40pm and the south bank was packed with Pompey fans already.

So stood on the Town End in the corner. Bit later a few more Reading fans started to arrive and I was stood in a group of around 20 on Town End.

Of course the Pompey fans spotted us and hundreds of them scaled the wall from the South Bank and came running straight at us across the pitch.

I was stood at the front of our group and turned round to see everyone else legging it.

Not being brave enough to take on 300 hundred Pompey fans on my own, I legged it back towards the entrance onto Norfolk road across the terracing.

Big mistake, the old wooden doors were shut and locked.

Everyone was panicking and trying to climb up the gates to get out clambering over each other.

Lot of people got out but I was not so lucky and took a load of punches and kicks from the Pompey fans and got smashed up against a gate (hence now barely visible scar on back.)

The weird think is, I can't really remember how I got out of it. I never got out of the ground. I think maybe the few police in the ground at the time got rid of the Pompey fans from the Town End or maybe they got bored kicking the sh*t out of us.

I watched the rest of the match in brown trousers until the invasion at the end when they went into the Tilehurst end where most of the Reading fans who'd bothered to stick around, were.

I'd take issue with the guy who said that somebody got stabbed on the Tilehurst End and was in a coma.

To my knowledge, the guy who was in a coma was attacked on the South Bank after he had tried to protect a girl from the Pompey fans and got nearly killed for his trouble.

The last think I remember about that awful day was making my way home and having to hide when hundreds of Pompey thugs stormed down the Wantage Road laying waste to anything in their sight.

There was some talk at the time that there was an almighty ruck in town later with some Reading effnics but don't know much about that.

The late kirby and a few others held firm in the Tilehurst End and repelled the Pompey attacks. However, it was not so good when Sheffield Wednesday came down that same season when the whole ground was surrendered!

Ashfordroyal To my knowledge, the guy who ended up in coma was in the Tilehurst End at the front of the terrace by the goal, he was badly beaten, never heard of a stabbing, but it wouldnt surprise me.

There was no stabbing and to my knowledge he was on the south bank, but nothing would surprise me.

It was the Tilehurst End and I still nave the paper clipping to prove it.

The T End had part of the pitchside wall collapse too.

NR, there were the "afroed pigmented" gentlemen of Reading gathered at a Reggae shop on Oxford Road awaiting the Portsmouth fans as they chased spotty irks such as I after the game.

Lasting memory, was jumping onto a Jumbo bus ..just in the nick of time having been chased down Wantage Road only for it to get bombarded by cauliflowers etc from a veg shop

Chelsea and their Celery weren't invented then

Good job we gained our revenge last season when a firm comprising RL, Schards, Maguire, Solent Royal and JSC took one of their boozers up there.

Though, to be fair, it was about 3 miles from the ground. And I mostly stood outside with an orange juice and lemonade.

According to a couple of lads in the Coopers, TVP let Pompey into the Scruffy Murphy's pub after the game and they tried to have a go at the people in the Malt Tap
