Ohhh! Memories ....
We had a seat near to the pitch and my brother decided to yell at the top of his voice ,"Foster, you camel!".

As he said it, thw place suddenly went quiet and Steve Foster the extremely big Luton Centre Back heard every word. He was not happy and glared at my brother .. if he'd come over , my brother would have been on his own!

:D :D

Even though it was "only" the Simod Cup, such a great experience. For one day, we really felt like a big club. I was directly in line with Smillie's shot for the 4th goal.

The following week against Ipswich I remember being stopped by loads of people asking for directions to Elm Park. Obviously their second ever Reading game. Attendances returned to normal very shortly afterwards.

For a true example of going from the sublime to the ridiculous, a year to the day later we scrambled an undeserved last minute penalty equaliser on Easter Monday in a relegation six pointer at The Rec. A game where the attendance was a good 1000 over capacity and the police were disgracefully heavy handed. Truly one of the scariest football matches I've ever been to. These were the good old pre Hillsborough days where fans were regarded as fair game by the clubs and the authorities.

I was 14 and had had a st for a few years thanks to my Dad, but it was definitely the most memorable match of my childhood. Who won again?

readingbedding I think it was a lot of people's first Reading match.

I think it was a lot of peoples 'only match', prior to this season!

I took the missus (then girlfriend) 'out for the day'. It was to be the only footy match she has been to. I remember driving there and parking in front of some offices and hoping that the car would still be there afterwards. It was.

I worked at Lex Brooklands at the time, small world. Say hello to your Dad(s).
Great day out, didn't go on the Lex coach mind you, the train trip was amazing. I still have my programme, ticket, and bizarrely a rossette! thought they went out with rattles and black and white TV but no , they were alive and un-well even then!
