Royals to be deducted points?

by cheeryoleary » 01 Apr 2007 08:48

Sheffield United have called for the Royals to be deducted points for fielding Kevin Doyle and Shane Long.

The Royals shrewd signing of the Irish stars last season could have been contrary to Premier League rules, leaving other big clubs expecting the appropriate measures to be taken when talks are held next Thursday.

Sheffield United chairman Terry Robinson said: "It is clear a breach of regulations if a club dares not to fritter away millions on their team. We have to rely on the [Premier League]board to make sure justice is done."

Wigan chief executive Brenda Spencer also voiced her concerns: "It's not a witch hunt against any club, but we all have to abide by the regulations."

Mark Ashton, chief executive of Watford, said: "We do not know if there has been any transgression of the rules, but if there has been, we have full confidence in the Premier League to take appropriate action."

Should the Premier League find that Reading breached rules in signing the Irish stars, they could be liable to penalties, including the possible deduction of points.

Reading are currently eighth in the Premiership, a game in hand and two points off a European spot.

If this is an Aprils Fool joke, you are a cruel cruel person and nearly gave me a heart attack.
But i would prefer that than it being real.
