I noticed in the Charlton programme on Monday that they are planning on taking 7500 fans up to their game at Ewood Park by laying on free coaches and chartering several planes to transport fans. And I was thinking it would be great if we could do something similar for our last game of what has been a fantastic season. It would be a great occasion to get as many of us Royals as possible to celebrate what has been a great season and show our appreciation to the players and management.

I should imagine at the moment we would probably take around 1500-2000 fans, but it would be great to have at least double this and create a fantastic party atmosphere for the last game of the season.

Any thoughts, STAR, on whether this would be possible, and please everybody else feel free to support or rubbish this idea - hopefully not the latter.

Great idea mate. I was thinking the same when I read it, but honestly at this club...no chance.

I think if we needed 3 points in our fight for survival then the club might consider (I'm not saying they would do anything but they may consider it). As our game against Blackburn is likely to be nothing more than an end of season stroll, there's more chance of Nick Hammond becoming a bass singer than free travel being offered.

Similar ideas have been mooted before but I believe JM doesn't see it the same way so there's more chance of Elvis Presley being our next manager....

The club don't run coaches so I guess you are asking the club to pay the cost of running a fleet of STAR coaches ?

And presumably the STAR memberships as well ?

And what about the work for STAR to manage 50 or 60 coaches (needing 100 stewards )

From what I've heard JM's view has always been that if the club pay for coaches then what about people who travel by train or car - should they get some subsidy too ?
And why should people who have never travelled away before, should they suddenly get a 'free' ticket ?

I do think it would be a nice gesture if those who have (say) been to every away game this season got some kind of thankyou but don;t think the doors should be open to everyone to grab a freeby.

Any chance of STAR liaising with Charlton to check the deal they arranged with the flights. It might be too late this time but surely lessons to be learned and if there are group discounts to be had here I wouldn't mind STAR taking some of this if the cost passed on to fans was the same or less than a commercial flight, especially if we also got the value add of the transport from the airport to the ground thrown in.
