Back from the game

by AbovetheI » 14 Apr 2007 17:26

Well it wasn't too good to be honest. Good performances from De La Cruz, Ingimarsson, Gunnarson & Hunt. That Diop bloke in Fulham's midfield was a big bastard! And kudos to the Fulham fans and their gay hand clapping chant.

Thinking that Seol had a good game for the first half , dropped off in the second half however.

Was a boring scrappy game much like the away league of this one and watford, but we won and that's all I care about.

Stand out performances from De La Cruz, Gunnarsson and Doyle.

A scrappy match, which we looked a bit complacent in to be honest...
The 3 points were the most important thing though.

Thought we were excellent in the 1st half, good high tempo put them under a lot of pressure.

2nd half we just didn't get into our stride. Thought we missed Sidwell big time after the break, we just couldn't get hold of the ball in the centre. I thought today highlighted that Gunnarsson is a decent player at times, but he is not a suitable replacement for Sidwell week in week out.

Seol seems to have his appetite back, must be the weather!

Listening to Tim on Radio Berks after the game, you'd think we'd just been thrashed 6-0. Him and other people complaining about entertainment and value for money....I thought played all right, personally.

Comparing it to other events was stupid. With football you never know what to expect. Today was a performance similar to the end of last season, nothing to play for, seeing the season out.

Utter garbage, if you ask me. Thought Bikey, De La Cruz and Bryn were the pick of a very average bunch today.

This week has tipped me over the precipace of disillusionment with the Premiership. It's got nothing to do with our results or our run of form. I'm sure i'll get some git going "what are you moaning for, were in the top half of the premiership, things have never been this good". Well, from my perspective we have had it this good and we've had it a oxf*rd of a lot better. The soul of the game is rotten to the core in the Premiership. It's too self important and it's no longer fun.

Firstly the Poll incident. it's a clogger's charter and shouldn't be implemented unilaterally and the oxf*rd gets praised for it by the Premier League.

Secondly, El Kharkouri. Lita gets a 3 match ban and that cheating, feigning oxf*rd gets off scot free.

Thirdly, Fulham today, typical Premiership team, petty little infringements, stealing yards etc. They get warned by the ref, continue doing it and what happens? oxf*rd all.

Fourthly, the referees and linesmen, even worse than the Football League. Star struck by the bigger names and eager to please them.

Fifthly, I've seen Reading in all 4 divisions, had a season ticket since 1988, go to 35+ games a season and I'm pissed off with the lack of integrity in the Premiership. I have a near 500 mile round trip for every home game. Holy Grail? Poisoned chalice, more like. It's increasingly hard to justify to myself the expense of a season ticket for next year because I don't want to watch this self indulgent, self important shit and I don't want my team to go down that road. oxf*rd wake me up when were back in the football league

As for the Fulham fans singing "Where were you when you were shit?" Well, I was in the away end at Craven Cottage, getting hassled by over zealous coppers and soaked to the skin watching 2 extremely shit Division 3 teams attempt to play football in front of a crowd of 2,500 people. Were you in the home end? I oxf*rd doubt it. Pot and kettle, you oxf*rd, pot and oxf*rd kettle.

Not a particularly good game but we do need the practice without sidwell.

If Copell wants to look at his options in the games left, I hope Halford will figure a few times. De La Cruz did well but is he going to be here next year?

He was never in an onside position at any point from the ball being placed to him putting it in the net so yes, a completely correct decision and totally out of character for the linos today. I did try to tell him but he obviously doesn't respond to "For oxf*rd's sake Doyle, get onside"

Would you take notice if someone swore at you? Ask him nicely and he might listen.

We've had some serious issues the last few games with continuously getting caught offside. Are our strikers just in a bit of a lull, or have prem defences now figured out our channel-running style?

Well, if I was standing on a railway line with a train heading towards me, I might respond to someone yelling at me to "oxf*rd get off the line" Similarly, Doyle was a good 2 yds beyond the defender who went with him (Knight?), made a motion back but was never less than a yard offside. Not even a tight decision. If he wasn't aware that he was miles offside then he probably needed someone to swear at him.

I think a lot of marginal decisions are not going our way, Kitson today being a case in point on more than one occasion but Doyle wasn't even close to being marginal.

Kits did a very good interview just before 6 on BBCB.

he was saying that Fulham made it very difficult for the strikers by playing with the defensive line very high up the field.

With that it's inevitable there'll be lots of offsides.

Thought the fulham fans were suprisingly the best we've had for a long long time. Some of our baiting chants such as "going down", bla bla bla was as cringeworthy i've seen for ages.

Most ironic chant of the day though had to be " where were you when you were shit", and that coming from fulham who set a record for buying their way to the prem
