Nope, I knew we would finish higher than that. We won't finish top nine though

Who cares?

This club doesn't want or need European football next season.

Give me one good reason why not, and I'm afraid the extra games theory is bollocks.

Agree with H & P. We could have finished in the top 7, and had europe next year , no real reason why we didn't go for it. Brick by brick approach , to leave oppurtuinites when they are there for the taking?

I think we'll finish 8th or 9th, so will that be enough for Europe. Again i'm not particularly bothered about europe, nor was i coming into the Premiership. Its a shame we couldn't of won the league then decide to stay there to win it again! Thats what Man U and Chelsea etc get to do!

8th or 9th is unlikely to be enough for Europe. If we do qualify for the UEFA Cup it will be a quite astounding achievement that we should embrace. I don't go in for 'we don't want or need' it. What rubbish.

Exactly, it is a priviledge to represent your nation at a European level. It should be embraced and not dismissed

Yes, if Chelsea beat Blackburn today then 7th spot will qualify for Europe. Much as I'd love to one day see my team in Europe, I don't want it for next season. 8th spot is what I predicted at the start of the season, and I'm sticking with it.

Wouldnt it be possible to get into the Intertoto Cup? As I understand it, probably wrongly, is that the four teams below the UEFA cup proper can enter. So if we did qualify should we enter? And do well and get into the UEFA Cup?

Why would we want that rather than European Football? It's just as distracting, and meaningless.

Hypothetically....

... we miss out on Europe by one spot this season, struggle next season, finishing 17th, and then are relegated in 2008/09. by 2012 we are in League One, and Reading don't play in Europe in your lifetime.

Grab every opportunity with both hands.

Well it IS european football, you will be able to tell that by the teams that are in it. And if we fail to get 7th then you can get through to the Uefa by doing well in it, bearing in mind that generally british clubs dont enter until round 3.

And to be honest the FA Cup and League Cup have less and less meaning now, so maybe we shouldnt be in them?

Like someone said before grab every opportunity!

We can use Europe as a reseve league instead of being the only club to field our reserves in the reserve league.

the experiance of playing in europe wouldn't do the players any bad either i bet, we're still in with a shout especially if we get a result at bolton.

The first round is a knock out round

then its the group stage

5 teams per group you play each team once, 2 games at home and 2 games away

maybe you mean the 3rd qualifying round?
