Papa Bouba Diop anyone? Looked good today, mainly as he's beig and we seemed sh1t scared to go anywhere near him but iwouldnt be disappointed if we got him. He was on the verge of signing for Wigan at one point in January wasn't he? I think offers reported were £4 mil but if they go down that could drop... the whole Wigan saga could be a load of bollox though really can't remember.

Shame Sunderland are up, we could have had another pop at Dean Whitehead otherwise

On today's evidence it's a replacement for Gunnarsson on the bench we'll be needing as he'll be stepping into Sidwells position.

Hayden Mullins seems a good shout to me, has been in good form for West Ham for a good while now, and a dependable performer. I also think we should sign a more attacking central midfielder. We have been lucky with a lack of injuries to Harper and Sidwell this year, and we need 3 decent CMs with Gunnar playing the utility role.

agree with the previous poster who suggested bouba diop

i think he's the type of player we need, someone who will just sit in front of the back four and break up opposition attacks.

i think the bloke we were looking at previously, and had a 5 million bid turned down for (emerse fae ??) was exactly that kind of player.

overall, i think we need to sign 2 central midfielders, one to replace sidwell and another player who's more a creative type of player(coz harper is'nt and never will be that type of player)

harper isnt a defensive player (i've counted about 5 tackles from him in all the time he's been here  )and he isnt more than a 3 or 4 goals a season player (so not a goalscorer either) so i think with sidwell going, we can use this opportunity to change the way our midfield plays (for the better)

might get shot down for saying this, but i've thought for a while that central midfield is the one area where we could be stronger in ?

obviously, its about identifying the right player, at the right price, and someone able to fit into the way coppell wants our team to play, but i'm confident, that having known that sidwell's been going, for several months now, he's been eyeing the transfer market for the right replacement.

Agree. All good sides have a big tough ball winner in the middle. Sidwell is half that player, Harper never will be.

Sidwell leaving is an ideal opportunity to get a tough bastard in to play in the middle.

Agree with you 100% warrpp about the need to invest in two new midifelders. We need a new partnership to improve the team and ensure we stay up next year.

Here's a bit of gossip for you Derby fans.
Reading tried to bring Giles Barnes to the Madejski Stadium in January with a £2m bid but were knocked back with the Rams promotion challenge still in tact.
Reading are planning to return with a summer swoop, even if Derby win promotion to the Premier League in May.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Reading plan a summer swoop for one or both of Jason Koumas and Giles Barnes.
Barnes was at the centre of a Royals bid back in January, and Koumas has impressed both on the pitch and with his improved attitude off it.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

From the very unreliable rumours site, but two similar rumours.

How about Matthew Flamini from Arsenal?
He wants to leave for 1st team football & is good player.
Wouldnt be over pricey either...?

Well out of our reach, unless it's on a season long loan.

I wouldn't mind that Song blokie on loan at Charlton.
