The trouble is that this is what the Premier League is all about - survival!

We're never actually going to win anything ever again - the target every season will be survival, followed by a lull once that's achieved as everyone winds down and players and their agents decide who's playing for who next season.

Very true, unless Coppell changes his Cup policy then we could be faced with achieving 40 points as our only thing to celebrate

The money in Europe comes from the Campions League. I remember Newcastle's chariman complaining that UEFA cup football would cost the club money unless they made it to the second phase.

If Millwall can make the FA Cup final (and Watford the semi), then there is certainly a chance Reading can win some silverware

But is that possibility all we seriously have to look forward to for the next 136 years?

Of course not. The club will be acquired by an Asian entrepreneur looking to become famous by being associated with the glamour of the Premier League. £100s of millions will be invested to build the club and hire a Champions League winning manager, and Reading will become synonymous with domestic and European success.

As has been mentioned before, a few extra games in the season aren't likely to be the difference between relegation and staying up.

Don't agree. One game can make a big difference if for no other reason than it's an extra opportunity to pick up injuries. But more so that it's an undesirable distraction at this stage of the club's development. But if it happens it happens. I'm not saying we should refuse to play!

As we'd have a bye to the 3rd round of the Carling Cup we'd only be playing one extra game which should hopefully soothe your fears a tad.

i'm indifferent. if we make it then i'll embrace it, as a lot of people have pointed out, we may not get the chance again.

if we don't make it i won't lose any sleep over it, cos it maybe something we could do without, but i do wonder if maybe making europe this season might actually be good for the team?

we had a pretty unsurpasable promotion season, then if we finish just outside europe this year, what will the players feel they have to do to have had success next year? get to europe? so if we don't make it it'll feel like a failure. if we make it this year then the challenge would be to do well in europe an if we don't finish as high in the league there is a good excuse...just a thought

My first game was around 1970

I have seen year upon year of rubbish up and down the lower leagues until Mr Mad came along.

I cannot wait another 37 or so to get into Europe!

Realise my dream NOW before its to late.

Europe............................. BRING IT ON!

Do they enter the UEFA Cup at the first round stage? If not then they would need to get through all the qualifiers and then have to face one of the top seeded teams, which we would be

Chelsea is a one off, you won't find singularly funded billionaire investors looking to buy clubs. It will be the current crop of investment groups looking to make a quick profit while the TV money ever increases.

I thought Lerner was one of those but wants to develop the bought club in a sustainable way.
