Row Z Royal
skipper
Turns8 Mate is another example of rough diamond polishing...the potential is there but

Why do we keep saying this?!

We never saw him play! He got crocked before a league / cup game!

Except, of course, the league cup game he got crocked in.

Didn't he play against Darlington and then got injured in the reserves?

It was the reserve game against Chelsea that he got injured in I believe.

Spot on

I stand corrected.

On the subject of Kevin Dillon - today's EP states that he in currently in negotiation for a 2 year extension to his contract and he's had a letter from the club for the past 3 days, but won't open it until after the weekend, because he's such a moaner and his wife won't like it or something like that. Does this seem to suggest that he's not happy with what has been currently offered? If so, is he thinking of leaving??

He also said that he'd moan even if it was a really good offer as he's a natural moaner hence why he's not opening it until after the weekend.

How can he be unhappy with what he's been offered if he's not opened the offer?

Don't think he'll leave at the moment but if a management job came up he may be tempted to give it a go.

Kevin confirms RFC don't want Europe, and see it as potentially damaging if we did get there...
http://www.eatsleepsport.com/news_details.aspx?story_id=553717&l_id=2&t_id=66

We could go 7th if we beat Bolton, surely this means that Kevin/RFC don't want us to win the game on saturday?

Whatever, it can't be helping motivation because surely the squad would all like a chance in Europe, or do you think they will take the same "pragmatic" view as Kevin and Sir Steve??

No. Hunty was on 210 this morning on news saying they knew the club didn't think they were ready for European football, but players would love the chance of UEFA football.

Thanks. I do think it's a shame that RFC are going public with the No Europe talk. It's a bit unprofessional looking and I can't see the purpose. Also, the only way they can make it less likely to happen is to field a weakened team for the last few games which seems wrong to me. If we get into Europe then there will be lots of work to do and money to be spent, people to hire and I'm sure everyone is very busy etc etc and needs this like a hole in the head blah blah, but they will just have to get on with it!

I don't think it would weaken our Prem survival chances next year to play in Europe, which surely is the main consideration. Wouldn't the extra eurobucks help us to add strength and depth to the squad with more new signings?

You can rest assured that they will have plans in place should we qualify.

I don't so much think it's a case of not wanting Europe but I would expect that they have plans in place for the clubs development and UEFA cup football is not in that plan at this time.

Agreed but we should have a plan in place by now. It's been a possibility for a few months. In any non-football club business the managers would be embarrased to admit a similiar lack of planning for a foreseeable situation, rather than coming out and saying they "don't want the extra business because we're not prepared". They may feel they can't personally manage that level of growth, but that's not always a valid reason to reject "new business".

That's what I meant.

They will have plans in place to deal with it should it occur but that will be a Plan B rather that Plan A.

For example, they will know their transfer targets for the summer but I would expect they will have additional targets should we finish 7th or better.

So, RFC doesn't want European football next season because they feel we are not yet ready for it, what a surprise!!!

How many different ways does this need to be said before it finally penetrates some very thick skulls amongst our support :?

I think we're all perfectly aware where RFC stand on the matter of Europe. That, however, doesn't necessarily mean that all supporters agree with it. HTH.

Sadly it seems this obsession with Europe has to spoil practically every thread on this board.

Murts took the opportunity to "clear things up" on last night's BBCRB phone-in.

They want to "win every game and finish as high up the league as possible". He spoke about the last four games all being win-able though far from easy. If they qualify they'll get more players in and go for it.

It's not me who needs the help, RL, it's those who keep banging on about Europe when the club have made it perectly clear, time and time again, that it's not on their radar for this season.

Just because the club have made it perfectly clear, it will never stop some fans from wishing that we could achieve European cup football next season. It's an opinion of some fans, or are fans not allowed to have opinions that contradict the thoughts of the RFC board and management from time to time.

I've got plenty of opinions that don't coincide with RFCs' but this ridiculous crusade is laughable when the club is more interested in preparing for next season than gaining entry to the p"ss poor EUFA cup.

I wouldn't mind making the UEFA cup and going out the 1st round.

It's part of making history. It would be great to say 'Reading have been in Europe'. We have to take the chance IMO, this could be the only one we get.

To be fair we've never given the Carling Cup or FA Cup a fair crack in recent years, if we "did" get 7th spot and get into UEFA cup, like you say, what's it matter if we field a similar team to that of recent cup games? If we lose, we lose. No-one is expecting us to win the thing!
