Three is a tiny number. I know a landlord in Henley was looking at doing it but don;t think anything happened, likewise in Tadley. I would have thought with decent local publicity a pub ought to be able to attract enough people for a prematch pint and grub / post match pint to make laying on a cheap or even free coach worthwhile.

There will be a bus from Henley to matches next season.

Is that a bus from a pub or a bus company one ?

If it's a pub then which one ? I have no doubt there are enough Royals in Henley to make it workable, certainly easier than getting the train.

My contacts at WBC report that the council has no objection to the expansion at all. However there is a concern with the highways and traffic implications, as there is a general feeling that RBC always wants to push traffice problems into Wokingham. There is no conspiracy whatsoever, simply that the plans did not include enought information regarding traffic.

WBC are in fact in favour of expansion and the continual success of Reading FC.

The best way to resolve this is to invade and conquer Wokingham. It's about time they were put in their place. We'll demolish the town, and then annex everything west of the Lodden.

Then we win living space in the west with an attack on West Berkshire.

Do you think WBC could have a word with thier colleagues in S Oxon who seem to be responsible for much of the traffic issues. That third bridge is much needed, although I guess the fact that it would almost inevitably mean the traffic currently passing through Reading would go via Sonning and into Wokingham's area means they aren't too keen on a solution !

They say 21% of 22k use the bus now = 4.5k
They want 49% of 33k to use the bus = 17.5k

So they want a change of 13k to use the bus, close to the proposed number of new seats, I don't think that is easily achievable.

Neither do I, hence my post. If I had to put it in terms of probability I would say they have a 1 in 100 chance of succeeding in reaching that target.

So how many does a bus hold - about 50?
So that means 350 bus trips after the game!

Coaches hold about 50, double decker buses probably hold near twice that when packed.

So just 175 needed !!

But the plans say parking for 100 buses so a lot of offsite space needed somewhere for the balance (even allowing for the local buses to eachdo 3 or 4 round trips)

Just goes to show, ticket prices have not been set too high. Even the homeless can still afford them.

I think that must be the crux of the objection. They must have worked out how many buses they needed to accommodate the extra supporters to come up with the 49% figure (which is spot on for the number of new seats added). But then could only find space to park 100 buses when they need 175+.

There is no mention of offsite parking for buses, nor any mention of buses doing multiple trips, so I think they just didn't think it through or assumed that actually they would only get 30% bus usage and the other 7k supporters use other means.
