Strip out those moaning for effect and there isn;t too much real dissent.

First loss of the season of its kind --at home, to patently inferior opposition.

That's not the full story, but it's a start. Not too shabby for the newboys, I'd say, and a testament to just what a fabulous campaign this has been.

Please, don't get me wrong --I remain livid about Saturday, notwithstanding my silence on the matter up to this point and henceforth.

You can't be a true Reading fan unless you have no perspective, are unduly negative and never satisfied

Not true.OK saturday was a bit of a downer but Im sure the majority of fans are over the proverbial moon to be a Reading follower.I guess those who have been around a while will have a broader perspective than those who in recent years have only known us on the up.
http://hobnob.royals.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=61080 tells its own tale.Great thread that one.

Such a shame to bog it up against such bl**dy appalling opposition but then that's the Reading way (as I'm sure all you non-plastics know).

It now makes our qualification for Europe slim but who the hell would have given us any chance of being in that position at the start of the season anyway?

At least, come Sunday, we can take all our inflatables up and enjoy the day as we ain't going down and should we manage to nick the 3 points then we've still got a chance.

From the highlights that I saw on MOTD, it is apparent to me that:

1) we should have had a penalty

2) their first goal was offside

3) Hahnemann f**ked up for their second goal.

2 out of 3 isn't bad for you Spacey.

Wasn't Marlon King offside when he touched the ball?

It was inconclusive whether he touched the ball but was he active?

Does he have to? I thought all he had to do was make a move toward the ball. Or stand right in front of the goalkeeper

That's what I thought too. But I'm fairly sure King had the tiniest touch on the ball as it passed him.

I think you lot need to learn the offside rule!

King was not offside, as he was played on clearly by Duberry who got caught napping. The active area debate is therefore nonsense.

The issue of whether King touched the ball or not is because, had he done so, Shittu would have then been off from his "pass".

Actually, Duberry was baulked by Henderson so was fouled but that wasn't spotted by the officials. Confirmed by Marlon King and Aidie Boothroyd in various interviews.

It was indeed a foul but a clever one and the sort of freekick you very rarely see given. Reminded me a bit of a goal we scored from a corner at Sheff Utd a few seasons back where Forster (I think) blocked off a Sheff U defender allowing Williams (again could be the wrong player) a free header to put us ahead.

Quite similar to the foul that Dirk Kuyt committed against Chelsea in the CL Semi 2nd leg which allowed Agger a free shot at goal.

Think it was Andy Hughes who was accused of doing that foul.
