Doyler I wouldn't have, playing for Reading should be every Reading supporter's dream, good money and you get to go to the likes of Old Trafford, Anfield and the Emirates Stadium, whereas Scott will have to rely on the draw on the champions league. Plus, I wouldn't be keen on living in Glasgow, terrible weather and it is extremely rough in parts.

I doubt if he would move to a high-rise flat in Glasgow nor would he have moved to Whitley if he joined us.
Scotland is one of the most beautiful places in the world and to be paid the big bucks that he will get at Celtic makes it a no-brainer.
The fact is Reading "might" get relegated but Celtic certainly won't and are almost guaranteed to play European football every year.
Nice to know that we made an offer but then we made offers for Mensah and Lescott this time last year.
Welcome aboard Cisse and let us wait for a few more.

SpaceCruiser I can understand why he would move to Celtic over Reading, but to say that Reading will get relegated is just utter bollocks.

He said might Spacey

Scott Brown If I had chosen Reading I would probably be fighting a relegation battle next season

Probably and might are two very different words!

Personally quite glad we've missed out on this chap. We've had our fill of duff SPL imports in the past (Reilly, McLaren - they couldn't cut it in Division 2 :? ) and besides this chap seems to have a bit too much to say for himself; doesn't really sound like a Coppell's RFC kind of player.

nivek elyod Can't blame him for choosing Celtic over us, but his comments about us are a load of bollocks...

Agreed

In what way? I'm intrigued on people's take on why his comments are either a load of bollocks or some sort of insult.

Because he didn't lavish praise upon us. Surprised you haven't seen the numorous threads concerning Warnock, Quashie, Lawrenson etc that have been running all season.

It's the way the HNA clique works.

I don't think anyone is disputing that he was always going to choose Celtic over us, or that that is anything but an easy and sensible decision.

People are just saying that he clearly doesn't know anything about us, and that those sort of unjustified negative comments say a lot about the sort of person he is, and that he wouldn't have fit in here at all.

I find it rather confusing that someone who has just followed Reading through the last season sees us as probable relegation candidates for next season.

I'm not saying we won't struggle or be in a relegation fight, but we are just as likely as plenty of other teams in the premiership and I can't see him saying similar things about other more well known or established sides like 'Boro, Fulham, Man City, Bolton.

It would have been odd if he'd said

'I didn;t chose Reading becasue they'll probably get relegated, and i also think Fulham, Man City and Bolton will struggle although there was no interest from them in signing me'

I fully understand and no hard feelings then! (of course, if the ignorant so and so feels he can only cope in a semi-professional league where there is no significant competition, then that's fine by me).

Hope they get eliminated from CL at first stage and come on you Gers!!!!

If we needed any further motivation to do well next season this certainly fits the bill.

Because somebody who I have barely heard of and who has achieved precious little in a career playing in a weak league decides against moving to us? I think you'll have forgotten his name by mid-winter.

The only real interest in this non-story for me is the very welcome news that not only are we apparently prepared to spend big to move on to the next level we are prepared to spend early for a change!

I think IR meant that if those clubs had approached him he wouldn't have come out with the "probable relegation" line about them.

I don't see why he would say it about Reading, unless he believes in this imaginary 2nd season syndrome.

SpaceCruiser Thinking about it, who was the most expensive Scot to come from a Scottish team, how much was it and when was it?

Is £4.4 millon expensive for such a player?

Spacey, a question. Would you rather have a frenchman sign for us who is eager and excited about the propsect for reading or a scot who is money grabbing and couldnt care less about reading?

Since the question is irrelevant to this thread, I am not going to bother answering that.

LOL @ all the fuss being made!!!

What this guy says isn't unreasonable is it!

For a start he seems to have an affinity for Celtic, which is fair enough.

And then all he says is he thinks Reading will be fighting a relegation battle. Why is that so outrageous? Since when has a good first season definitely guaranteed survival and progression for years? Some go down the next season, some continue It's hard to say. It's definitely not unreasonable to say or believe that Reading will go back down in the next couple of years, whereas Celtic will offer top class football.

If any of us had an enormous career decision like this we'd look at teh likelihood of survival/ success without RTGs. It's one thing being a fan and saying "yeah i'm sure my team will stay up and do well for years" and quite another beign a player who has to make an enormous career/life decision who looks at the situation totally objectively and opts for the safer option!

ReadingFlan My point was no player has come down from Scotland and made a big impact in the Premiership. Dalglish, Souness, Hansen we all know about as they have been around for years before the premier league began. The game is totally different now. No back pass rule for starters.
Colin Hendry ! come on ! I am talking about an impact. You can't name one !

 !!!!!!!!!

One of the key players in Blackburn's Premiership win.

McAllister counts, if only for his role in Liverpool's minitreble.
