Bennett in Ireland squad

by xtreme rebel » 17 May 2007 19:52

Rumours in Cork that Alan Bennett joins Shane Long, Kevin Doyle & Stephen Hunt in the Irish squad for the games against Ecuador & Bolivia next weekend?

Anyone heard this?

Joe Gamble is also in the squad.

Ireland plundering our reserves for players !

For years our one claim to International fame was Lawrie Sanchez playing for England U17 and suddenly anyone who signs a contract gets a cap !

Good luck to Benno if its true. He's good enough for Ireland and is better than most of the CB's on offer but he should have been called up while at CCFC and not after 6 months of no senior football.

Never mind that we have a manager who has won successive manager of the year Awards (ever happened befpoer?), if this goes on much longer we'll be able to field a starting XI who are all full internationals!

FFS!! This dream really is starting to extend the bounds of credibility!

He should have been called up 12 months ago and more. He's as good as any centre half in the first choice squad, let alone this shadow squad.

Oster isn't an international. He's very publicly being snubbed at the moment. Probably because he keeps being rude about the manager.

Seeing as he has 13 caps how does that mean he isn't a full international ?

You need to look back over more than 1 season !

I thought we were talking current internationals. If we're talking about anyone who's had a cap we had quite a few in the late 90's didn't we?

How much are we paying for this cap? Can we withdraw him from the Ireland squad? ;)

We were talking about fielding a team of full internationals from our current squad.

I can't believe such a simple concept can be so hard to grasp !

Doubt it.

He'll need to actually play rather than just get in a squad. No caps for being a squad member !

He'll probably play if it's a friendly, though, won't he? Loads of substitutions etc...

Oster isn't a current Wales International, although he bloody well should be! Substitute him for Convey and shift Seol to right wing and we've got ourselves a starting lineup of Internationals.

Seol.........Gunnarson..... Convey

So isn't Convey an international? I must have been dreaming at the time of the World Cup! .... or do you mean that we can't count Oster?
