Federici gets Aussie call-up!

Federici gets his first ever Australia call-up
10am, Friday 18th May 2007

Adam Federici has been called up to the full Australia squad for the first time.

Our keeper has been selected for a game with Uruguay on 2nd June.

Adam has trained with the Socceroos before, but has never been called up to a full squad.

He will also be hoping to turn that call-up into a place in the Asia Cup squad in July.

Federici, 22, made four starts in the FA Cup this season, winning player of the round after some superb saves in our 1-1 draw away to Manchester United.

He also made two sub appearances in the Barclays Premiership, away to Tottenham and Blackburn.

Other International News:

Scott Golbourne ended up on the losing side as England's under 19s saw their dream of European Championship qualification evaporate.
Scott scored an unfortunate own goal in a 2-1 defeat to Holland, and the scoreline means the youngsters cannot qualify.
His own goal came about when Siem De Jong had a clear sight of goal, only to hit the post, and as Golbourne back-pedalled it ricocheted off him and into the net.
Scott played the full 90 minutes of the game at Ricoh Arena, and he also got a full 90 in the previous game, a 2-0 defeat to Russian on Tuesday night.
Their final qualifying game is against Czech Republic at Northampton on Sunday.

Our midfielder Scott Davies is currently away with Ireland's under 19s, and he played 53 minutes of their 3-0 win against Bulgaria, before being on the bench for a 1-0 defeat to Germany. Their last game is against Hungary this Saturday, and the must win to have any chance of qualifying.

Kevin Doyle, Stephen Hunt and Shane Long all departed the UK on Thursday for a two-game Ireland tour of the US, facing Ecuador & Bolivia.

Ulises De La Cruz is in the Ecuador squad for two friendlies with Peru. Both games take place in Spain in early June.

Nicky Shorey joins up with England B on Monday, and faces Albania at Burnley on Friday evening.

Leroy Lita jets off for an England under 21 training squad this Sunday after being named in the provisional 30-man squad for the summer UEFA Championships. The squad will be cut before the tournament.

Alex Pearce also flies out on Sunday as he joins up with Scotland's under 19s.

Marcus Hahnemann was hoping to be involved in a USA friendly with China on 2nd June, as well as the Gold Cup and Copa America, but injury will rule him out now.

Well done Adam. A season with little chances and you still impress.

I feel under 'pressure' to reply - would feel 'deflated' if I didn't, although i have the feeling that it could go 'flat'.

Trust you to put a spoke in it!

Personally I reckon there's still a fair bit of mileage in it but be careful where you tread.

I'm glad someone else followed up with another rubbish pun after mine - it's always nice to have an alloy.

Oh, hang on, I left a few hours ago...

Maybe they'll take part in a rubber?
