Goal of the season?

I wasn't that impressed by Seol's WHU goal - faffed around for ages after we messed up a free kick then pretty much mishit a grass cutter which the keeper didn't see...

the goal from the 1st half of the season where hunt/shorey backheeled it for the other to cross in, dunno who scored it!

or the sidwell goal vs who know with the nice 1-2 with kitson?villa?

That be Sid's second v Villa, bw (his first was also good, from another great corner routine).

That's also my favourite this season - into the 90th minute, 1-0 up and Murty chases the ball into the opposition corner flag to put the defender under pressure, a hurried clearance as a result only finds James Harper standing (my god!) about 10 yards into the opposition half - a first time header forward to Sid and we're on.

Then, great one-touch football passing the defenders like they're statues and then Sid's sublime pass into the net. All arising from one of our team immediately seizing the opportunity to put the opposition under some pressure, and stemming in the first place from our right back chasing the ball into the opposition corner flag, in the 90th minute of the game. Typified our season for me.

Hunt's goal (our 3rd) at Bolton only a month back today was great. Loved Shorey's run on the left, dinking it past a couple of players and delivering a great accurate cross for Hunt to head in front of 1,500 mad Reading fans.

Seol's is the best striker of the season without doubt but I think a goal of the season should constitue more than one man hitting a ball from a set piece.

I would say it is a tough call between Leroy's goal at Chelsea with Glenn Little dancing down the right wing and putting an inch perfect cross onto Leroy's head that he dives and steers into the bottom left corner. The other one would be Leroy's first goal against Citeh where Sidders plays the perfect through ball to split the defence and Leroy hits it first time with his left foot across the keeper and into the corner.

I actually like De la's goal, the run from right back all the up to the goal to score was brilliant. He got a lucky deflection, but it was still an excellent run and the kind of thing Villa never got out of him.

I agree. It was a spectacular run. Think of what we would have said, though, had the deflection been different and he had been caught out of position! It was actually a high risk gamble that paid off by a fluke.

to score a goal, a series of up to 11 different people must all individually do the exactly the right thing, in the exactly correct sequence and timing, in order to get the ball in the net, whilst another set of 11 different people do everything in their power to stop it.
its a wonder we get and goals at all!

There's a lot in what you say although I think you have overstated it. In other words ... all goals are random but some are more random than others (with apologies to George Orwell).

I make it the random interaction of 25 individuals. Don't forget all those random offside flags and bad refereeing decisions. And the ref can be doubly random. As well as randon decisions one was guilty of giving an assist in a goal against us a year or so ago (against QPR?). I've forgotten the details but the fact sticks in my mind.

I think for me, it may be Gunna's equaliser against Liverpool. Sprung the offside trap excellently and then hit the ball with pace in to the only spot he was going to score - off the inside of the far post.

One of the best memories but not IMO one of the best goals.
