Proabably watching us in the Prem like most. TBF, you'll be hard pushed to find any set of fans not making such calls after the 3rd abject 3-0 defeat in a row esp one at home to the worst team in the division and playing so badly the St Trinian's under 9's would have got a result off us.

I remember not necessarily wanting him sacked, but I was pretty unhappy with where we were heading at the time. Shows what I know really.

I think if there's ever stage where Coppell has lost the confidence of the dressing room, he should go... Whether we're badly struggling in the Premiership or have been relegated, it doesn't matter.

Coppell was never much good before he became our manager - there must be something in the air with him and RFC.

Palace under his mangership is a fine example of what he can do and what Reading can achieve with Coppell at the helm.

Was watching the Palarse v Man Utd F.A. cup final highlights last night and it reminded me of how animated Coppell can be, especially when Wrighty scored their second. The finger snap and the smile was reminicent of last season when I think it was Long scored our 5th against Derby.

My one and only wish for Coppell is that he relaxes a tad this coming season and doesnt keep pulling at his neck!!

OK, he was good with Palace. I meant more with Man City, Brentford...

Given the extreme lack of resources at Brentford I reckon he did a pretty damn good job.

What people tend to forget is Coppell has been a Manager for a hell of a long time after starting out at a very early age (30, 31 IIRC). As Managers IMHO, you get better as you get old and wiser and Alad mentions his 2 relegations, from what I remember the 1993 relegation, it was in there own hands with 3 games left and 9 points clear of Oldham, yet they still blew it. SC would never make that same mistakes again.

As for him leaving, I can't see the current Chairman sacking him in any circumstances whatsoever, however as 1 Hobnobber predicted to me that a takeover within 12 months is realistic, then the goalposts shift and he might feel he doesn't want to work with new owners, and they may well feel they want there own manager at the helm.

However as football fans we are fickle and a minority will look at the short term future without remembering his contribution long term and get on his back if we don't start well next season.

OK, I will admit that I doubted him after that game. I wasn't one of those calling for his dismissal, on air or down the pub, but I do remember discussing with friends how he just didn't seem to know what to do to turn it around. At the time, whilst I didn't want him to go, nor would I have been sorry to see him leave. I was wrong to doubt God, and I now recourse to scourging my sinful body on a nightly basis, before lying spread-eagled on a cold stone floor until day break. I recognise, of course, that no penance can absolve the stain upon my soul left by my doubting Him.

Anyway, Coppell is just another example* that managers need to be given two or three years to have any chance to have an impact upon their club, not a few months. I'm glad that we also have a sensible Chairman, ie. one who is willing to appoint the right people to the job, who refrains from interfering with their job, and is willing to give them the time to do their job properly.

*Although the best example is obviously Ferguson.

I was on Radio Berks that night, talking for about 10-15 minutes. I remember it well - I was sat on the M4 in pissing down rain.

At no point did I say I wanted him out - what I said was that there was obviously something very wrong in the club that the fans didn't know about and which SC had to address, because there was nothing wrong with the players' ability but obviously something wrong with their attitude or motivation.

Also remember saying that the players had badly let down fans who had made great efforts to come and watch them in the rain on a Bank Holiday when there was no public transport, and that the fans were owed more.

As far as I'm concerned, SC has paid that debt with interest.

If he had an honourable bone in his body Coppell would have stepped down after failing to secure the win at Ewood Park on the last day of the season
