LEDLEY KING: Spurs man was quick to weigh in with some strong and important challenges but maybe switched off for the Brazil equaliser - 6.
JOHN TERRY: Captain arrived in the right place at the right time to head England in front. Another solid display from the Chelsea skipper - 7.
NICKY SHOREY: Did not disappoint on his big night. Solid showing from the Reading full-back - 7.
JOE COLE: Was one of England's more adventurous players, but failed to find either a decisive pass or strike on goal - 7.
FRANK LAMPARD: Another below-par showing from the Chelsea man, who has set himself such high standards. - 5.
STEVEN GERRARD: Had more defensive duties than the Liverpool skipper would have liked, producing some crucial tackles. - 7.
DAVID BECKHAM: The former England captain produced a quality display on his return to international action. At the centre of everything positive and just off target with free-kick in first half - 8.
ALAN SMITH: Disappointing showing from the Manchester United striker. Rarely threatened - 5.
MICHAEL OWEN: Showed a few glimpses of his old self. Made some telling runs and flicked a header over in the second half - 6.

STEWART DOWNING (for Cole, 62): The Middlesbrough man forced a fine one-handed save from Helton. Looked lively from then on - 7.
KIERON DYER (for Smith, 62): Made little impact, but covered plenty of ground - 6.
WES BROWN (for Terry, 73): Almost a nightmare introduction for the Manchester United defender, but fortunately his mistake on the edge of the area was not punished - 5.

HELTON: Little for the Brazil keeper to worry about. Dealt with what did come his way comfortably - 6.
DANIEL ALVES: Sevilla full-back was not really tested, and went forwards when needed - 6.
NALDO: Caught out for the England goal, but had otherwise kept the home attack relatively quiet from open play - 6.
JUAN: Bayer Leverkusen defender produced a solid display, if rarely troubled around the area - 6.
GILBERTO: Helped keep the defensive line and did not get dragged up field too often in support of attack - 6.
MINEIRO: Played just in front of the back four and fed the counter attacks well - 6.
RONALDINHO: Barcelona man was as expected the main attacking outlet for Brazil. Showed some brilliant footwork, but was off radar with his free-kicks tonight - 8.
GILBERTO SILVA: Arsenal man produced another consistent display as holding midfielder. Had the ball in the net in first half, but was ruled out for offside. Cross set-up the stoppage time equaliser - 7.
VAGNER LOVE: Few clear chances for the CSKA Moscow striker. Was good in his link-up play - 6.
KAKA: AC Milan star showed plenty of neat footwork and fired a couple of shots off target. - 7.
ROBINHO: Real Madrid attacker was full of running, and produced decent opening for himself in the first half. - 6.
SUBSTITUTES
EDMILSON (for Miniero, 63): Solid showing. Like for like replacement - 6.
MAICON (for Alves, 65): Slotted into the side and got forwards well - 6.
ALFONSO (for Kaka, 71): Best chances of the night fell to the Heerenveen striker on his debut. Will feel he could have done better - 6.
DIEGO (for Robinho, 74): Got forwards well, and the Werder Bremen man popped up in stoppage time to head home an equaliser - 7.
