Record transfer fee received

by Super Si » 12 Jun 2007 21:50

I believe that the sale of Halford smashed our record transfer fee received. The fact that we can sell someone who often failed to make the bench for 2.5-3m is a real sign of progress by this club.

I can't think of a fee we've received that is close?

Shaka?

Well the record that was broken was the one for Shaka so yes, that is the nearest !

My point was that it is quite an achievement that we received such a large fee for a reserve player.

Our previous record that was beaten easily was for an absolute Royals legend.

Does anyone know the top 5 fees received for Reading players?

I hope that Carl Asaba makes it

Not sure its progress to sell someone just for a quick buck, personally thought the guy would come good given a chance. Only hope it doesnt come back to haunt us, I'm hoping we'll use the money to buy some decent players because we need at least one excellent midfielder and probably a decent right back if Murty continues to get injured.

Both transfers will have all sorts of clauses. Does anybody know if we have actually made any money out of it?

Think Hammond said we did as it made good business sense, not sure if that means we made money now or will in the future. We've got to pay Colchester some additional cash so we must be making something out of it.

what about Williams? Did we get much for him when he went to Wolves or was it end of contract... I can't remember.

We've used most of our good players to past their sell by date in the last 10 years or lost them at the end of their contract. Theres not a lot of point going back much further than that either.

We'd have got a fair amount for Primus if it wasn't for his contract running out. We did alright from Henderson and Tyson in the end, but not directly. Don't think Ashdown was as much as Hughes either. Brebner went for under his value... Murray? Taylor? Nogan?

Did we get anything for Senior?

Edit - Wiki says £200,000 but in '88 I guess that was decent money.

Sean (or was it Ricky) Allaway went for a very big headline figure, although how much of it we actually saw is another question....

Yes it's a reflection of the kind of market Reading are trading in these days, but I think it just shows how easy it is for clubs to pay over inflated prices for ordinary squad players.

Will we see Reading smash their transfer record by signing a big name or do you think we will get away with paying £1 - £2 million on decent up & coming players?

i thought we got about £320,000 for Trev and paid about £200,000 to get him back.

(that's purely form memory though and could easily be wrong)

The Wiki article is quoting the transfer from Watford to Boro.

Trevor left Watford very quickly after joining them didn't he ?

And then didn't stay at Boro long ?

Would that be described as a 'Double Halford' ?

Just had a look on soccerbase, the ones I found were:

Greg Halford £2,500,000
Shaka Hislop £1,580,000
Simon Osborn £1,100,000
Adrian Williams £750,000
Carl Asaba £590,000
Scott Taylor £500,000
Keith Curle £500,000

Andy Hughes £500,000 (says signed, but we know the fee)
Shaun Allaway £300,000
Grant Brebner? (says signed, but I can't remember the fee)
Craig Maskell £225,000
Lee Nogan £170,000

Speaking of Shaun Allaway, what happened to him? I thought he was the next big star and since he moved to Leeds I've not heard about him since.
