Coppelled Streets
1871 Royal I would like to put a certain Mr Forster forward.

Didn't he average about 6 goals a season by the time he left? No way is he anywhere near the best strikers this club has had!

That may be so, but whenever he scores, he always scores quality goals. Sheffield United away?

Having said that, I am tempted to do as Behindu suggested.

Don't forget to add Carl Asaba to the list!

Carl Asaba may have been the top scorer for that season when we were relegated, but I don't think we really saw the best of him. If only Tommy Burns hadn't sold him!!!

But he's never going to get into the vote.

Spacey, or can I call you Johnny come lately?-Perhaps your knowledge of Liverpool forwards goes beyond your memory of Reading strikers.

Er, the short list I drew up was based on the number of nominations each received. So, it's not just me............

Les Chappell could head a ball as well as Jimmy Quinn despite being no taller than pocket rocket Schards. On the other hand Robin Friday could head-butt a man further than Chappell could a ball. On reflection Robin wins.

And LOL at putting Doyle ahead of the likes of Dixon and Friday! Little early aint it?

Forster = brilliant for RFC.

Certainly on that list, on his day absolutely unplayable.

Nicky Forster was a very greedy non team player but despite this had a very poor goals to game ratio*
He was however a very good finisher according to the former partner of a ex RFC pie eating midfielder.**

*(c)Woodcote Royal.
**Allegedly- Messers Sue, Grabbit & Run are on standby.

Turns8 How about also do the best partnership...

Quinn/Lovell from the promotion seasons when they were bagging goals for fun

Then you'd have to have Lovell/Nogan too.

Irvinchangeyaname And by the way, Doyle is a quality player, but IMHO a long way off being in the running in this vote.

Who would you rather have in your team?

Butler and Lita. Pace and power, with strength and passing ability, what a combo. Quinn, Curo and Lovell were pretty tasty too.

Looks tricky to decide which player is going to be in the shortlist! Judging from who got the most nominations, the top 8 should be:

Jamie Cureton
Kevin Doyle
Trevor Senior
Jimmy Quinn
Kerry Dixon
Robin Friday
Dave Kitson
Nicky Forster

Bubbling under: Ronnie Blackman, who probably will go into the second poll. Is everybody happy with that?

I'd swap Fozzie for Blackman.
Can't be wrong to include our top scorer and it wouldmake this a nicely balanced poll in terms of the eras covered.

Forster definitely will be in the next poll, and I would like to put in Leroy Lita too, so the winner of the first poll will make way and I'm wondering whether to drop either Blackman or Kitson who have only garnered 2 votes each. Would I be wrong to do this?

Trouble is, so few of us ever saw Blackman. How about giving the casting vote to people who did? (Is there anyone?!)

Tricky, I do wonder if anyone actually saw him. He played between 1946 and 1953, which would make anyone who had seen him play very old. Where's Hampshire Royal and Bournemouth Royal these days, I wonder if they were old enough to see them.........

1953 is only 50 years ago Spacey - you'd hardly need to be 'very old'.
I can think of sveral posters who would have seen him play (but won't mention names to preserve modesty !)

Bournemouth Royal is ancient and probably thinks Blackman is a 'modern day' player. BR was last seen being taken for a walk along the seafront by a couple of nice young nurses.
