Prediction: Reading v River Plate

by Barry the bird boggler » 10 Jul 2007 17:34

K.O. 12 midday (UK time) Friday 13th July

Could be a tricky one this, no previous history so could go either way.

Reckon if we can shackle Zapata and Ortega though we could have it in the bag.

Reading 1 - 3 River Plate

Think we could be on for a stuffing here, as well as lyon. River are a very technical side with players who are comfortable on the ball. I'm expecting a game dictated by the tempo river choose, which will probably be a lot slower than we're use too. I'd be very surprised if we had over 40% possession all game.
Their not the side they used to be with aimar, saviola, ortega, etc but still a big threat.

We'll get a pasting and then fans will panic m8 at how we need to spend spend spend or we'll be going downnnnnnnnnnnnn.

Not to fussed about the results. I just hope we gain some valuable fitness, stay injury free and some of the youngsters do well.

Where are they in their league season? Do they start in December like Brazil? I was just wondering how they would treat the tournament - would it be a worthwhile training exercise or are they just there for the money?

The Argentine League looks like this at present:

http://www.soccerway.com/national/argen ... 7/apertura

River Plate are 3rd, 6 points behind Boca Juniors and Estudiantes after 19 games. I believe River Plate finished 6th last season, but don't quote me on that...
