Behindu Can anyone recall the last RFC red card that wasn;t roundly condemned as 'excessive' ?

Sonks was unlucky cos the Villa guy tripped over his legs, Sodje was sent off for fouling a bloke who was already offside, Bikey got a second yellow for a nothing touch on Drogba etc etc etc

Do Reading players never do it properly and deck a player in full view of the ref or punch the ball off the goal line ?

Sonko's was stonewall.

Bikey's was a red, the other two weren't.

My view

Sonks was very unfortunate. Absolutely no intent, was trying to pull out of the challenge and Taylor fell over rather than was brought down. But the ref wasn;t well placed and from his view it would have been a clear red

Sodje's was ridiculous. Total lack of common sense by the ref.

Bikey was a bit unfortunate and it was a case where the second yellow did not deserve to lead to a red, but those are the rules. Wasn;t helped by Mikkel having been sent off and on another day I think Bikey would have just been warned to steady down.

2 out of the 3 (plus Kits) could have been avoided by the player using a bit of common sense.

Moore? Agbonlahor? One of the fast oxf*rd.

Anyway, in that one, he's the last man and he was clumsy. Intent is incredibly hard to read in that position. But the player would have been through on goal.

Personally, I'd rather see red cards for genuinely violent conduct and a bit more option for a yellow rather than a red in cases where its been mistimed. But that's not the rules, is it? A stern word > random cardage.

How many fricking times!

The last man is immaterial, it is whether it is a clear goal scoring chance or not that is in the laws. It just so happens that reasonably often if you are the last man then it is likely to be a clear goalscoring oppotunity.

Fine I'll let you off, but my hazy memory seems to recall several Reading players in close proximity. I would dispute it was a clear goal scoring chance, and possibly on a repeat viewing that it was even a foul.

Yeah, because Sonko didn't utterly clatter him.

He didn't clatter him he sort of clipped his heels if I remember correctly. Either way a definite red card. Just because you clipped someone instead of chopped someone doesn't make it any less of a foul and the guy was through and about to shoot.

My memory is of him losing his balance and bringing him down as he fell.

Yeah which I wouldn't describe as clattering him. To me clattering implies a full on whack this was a clip that looked more messy by the fact Sonko fell over as well.

Did no-one see how high Kitson's foot was?(brendywendy, hoopblah)

Bloody dangerous and reckless.

Surprised he hasn't done it before.

He's not dirty, just reckless..................just like one of his teammates.

there doesn't need to be intent. "Intent" was taken out of the rules about 10 years ago.

Of course it does give rise to the paradoxical situation you get, like in Sonko's case, where Sonko can be sent off for accidentally committing a professional foul.

It's similar with Kitson's one. The fact that he may have not been intending to injure the player, or even make contact with him for that matter, the challenge was deemed to have been done in a way liable to cause injury, which is a red card.

What is stupid is that both tackles that are unintentionally dangerous, and those that are brutal hacks or kicks, get punished with the same length ban.

Yes, exactly as high as the ball was. Or do you expect someone to kick along the ground when the balls a foot above it.

Mistimed due to only just having come on. unlucky.

He was unlucky. All the top 4's players are bloody whimps, especially the European players from the continent.

And don't forget Lita's retrospective red and 3 match ban for looking at El Karkouri at Charlton

There was a foul last night in the Spurs v Everton game, which I reckoned was as bad, if not worse than Kitson's, and there was only a yellow card. Mark my words, there'll be another red tonight if players are baited and I bet Chelsea don't get it.

Sorry, but Kits tackle was a Red card. The ref was Styles and we were at Old Trafford, neither of which helped, but it was still a red card.

I think one of the dissapointing things for him being injured for most of last season is that he hasnt had as much a chance as others to adapt to Premiership level football.

Kits greatest asset is his energy and resilience, he needs to learn how to harness that in order to be more effective in the Premiership. I like his style but if he commits to a tackle like that, he has to get his timing absolutely spot on, otherwise he will either get sent off, or needless bookings. Evra showed how Premiership players will make a meal out of a late tackle. Kits need to learn from this.
