Strictly a ginger thing. I was half booing Gunnarsson and went through a phase of booing Sonko sometime last season. Kitson wasn't playing.

I would suspect it has something to do with a large percentage of our home crowd is full of pricks.

i think someone said on the match thread they would cheer and clap his name before the match but would boo him pantomime style during the game.

hang on

do you mean during the game when he was flying into tackles we would have been booked for?

becuase he was flying into tackles that we would have been booked for

before the game, i hardly heard a single boo when the teams were read out
in fact he got a pretty big ovation.
after that i will boo him like any opposing player if he does something i dont like.

See this thread:

Football is apparently about being able to act like a complete twat whenever you feel like it because after all - that's what football is about. It's 'part and parcel' duh....

(Although some of the tackles did deserve a boo)

Err.. that's not what that thread is about at all. It's about adults swearing at football matches and the continual sanitisation of the game I love..

I didn't boo him, but cheered when he finally got a yellow card.

Ok a serious answer to this question. I did not abuse Sidwell because of football but because my godfather is ginger. This created the amusing and on-going joke of "oxf*rd off you ginger tosser...and you can oxf*rd off and all Sidwell". (Chortle, Chortle).

Sidwell gave his all for us last season and never publically declared he wanted away. He never slagged off the club and when contract deals were off he still performed. For those reasons I didn't boo him.

Those who booed Sidwell had their reasons. Some may have seen his move as treachery and greedy and hence deserved a booing.

If Maggie Thatcher was to walk onto the ground some would boo some would cheer and neither would be right in the eyes of the other. That was deep.

I was in Argentina on business last year and the guys from that office took me to a Boca Jrs match. At the end of the match there was a riot on the pitch, fires were started on both ends of the stadium, and seat cushions were flying like a swarm of locusts. The fire brigade was out, a few ambulances, a taxi drove into the arena for some reason...it was chaos. The most surreal thing was that everyone was smiling...I was afraid for my life and asked my co-worker what I should do and he said, "Enjoy it. This happens at almost every match."
Not sure if he was fukcing with me or not...
So a little booing isn't so bad. At least you know they're paying attention.
I do think a lot of people use sporting events to act like complete twats...but the criteria for being a twat is completely subjective based on geography I suppose.

I was more embarrassed when we booed Cech, what for getting his skull fractured! Then we topped it off with a chant of “you only sing when you’re winningâ€

Now THAT is embarassing. The only time Petr Cech should've heard booing should've been from the away supporters when he dropped the ball in front of Bikey's foot.

So we should still cheer him when he goes in hard on our players, LOL!!!

Sadly I wasn't there when the team was read out due to the bus running late, but if I was then I would have cheered then, but during the match different story!!

I clapped when his name was called out. I booed him during the game. He now plays for Chelsea. Any tactic which unnerves an opposition player, whoever they are, is fair game in my opinion. (Although to be honest he's a professional football player and probably expected, and thought little of it). It had absolutely nothing to do with what I think of him as an individual.

Steve Sidwell was a loyal servant of Reading, I'm glad he played such an important role during his time at Reading and I wish him all the best and hope he does well at Chelsea.

Most of it was done in good humour, I wouldn't worry about it. I booed Sidwell a couple of times but I still think he did us a great service while he was here. Apart from his 'I've got a wife and kid to think about' comments that is.

Anyway, it's nothing compared to one group near me singing 'Die in a chopper, you always die in a chopper'.

He has turned into a chelsea player all right... his tackles were a disgrace

if it was any other player we would have boooed, so he got what he deserved. what a prat
