Reading fans and their booing during the game

by Huntley & Palmer » 20 Aug 2007 09:51

Is it only me that notices this but are our fans the only one's to have the ability to boo a player or official at every game we play in this league.

At Utd it was Ronaldo, Rooney and Stiles
At Chelsea it was Cech, Lampard, Drogba, Pizarro, the referee, Mourinho
At Everton it was Johnson, Howard, the whole Everton team and the referee and his officials again.

I'd understand if some of it is justifiable but for the most part it is laughable. Why on Earth were people booing Everton for not kicking the ball into touch when Oster was injured? Bennett quite rightly allowed play to continue as it was not a serious injury, Everton continued to do so yet RFC fans were foaming at the mouth. The talk before this season and last was that you didn't have to kick the ball out for an injury as the referee would stop the game if it is deemed serious enough. Oster, whilst turning over on his ankle was also play acting to waste some time.

The small mindedness of our support beggars belief sometimes. Why can't we focus on getting behind the team and supporting them rather than handing the away team the extra motivation they often need to score against us. It's happened on countless occassions now with Johnson, Lampard, Ronaldo, Heskey and a few others. Let's sort it out please

Oh and can someone tell me who is on the boo hitlist for Bolton away.

Of course, forgot about him. Hated by Reading fans for his spitting on of Celtic fans. Thanks

H&P - the voice of reason!

Agree completely - and usually it backfires because every time in the past we've booed Johnson it's motivated him enough so he scores against us.

It's for precisely this small-mindedness that we get marked down in the FAPL's "Fair Play"rankings - they don't just measure what happens on the pitch, but in the stands as well.

Much depends on if you are going to the game

My guess has to be the spitting cheating one!

Booing opposition players and officials has to be 1000,000 x better than booing any of our own players.

On this basis I don't mind it.

It falls down on the fact that we tend to enjoy doing both :?

Booing of teams not kicking the ball out when a player is injured isn't a Reading centric thing, it happens at a lot of games. Most fans are idiots and don't know the rule change has occured.

I'm sure plenty of clubs do boo most games but we see Reading more so notice it more. Still a bit weird at times, esp at people like Johnson so love it and love scoring against us (bar the width of the post, would have had 9 in 9 againt us).

Still I'd rather have that than be booing our own side off.

Couldn't this have been added to one of the "I'm a better fan than you" threads already running?

A'h but the idiots that do boo our own players can't do both at the same time, so there has to be a positive in that somewhere? :?

On the subject of booing our own, i have NEVER heard Seol get booed

i have heard all the usual "hes shit" "take him off" but every player gets that

and i think most games its fully justifiable as some days hes just a lazy arsed spectator

Thought we booed him for diving?

Anyway, re the Everton team not kicking the ball out for Oster, don't you think that Everton were aware of his injury and wanted to take advantage against 10 men?

What?

Anyway, I know the rules and I still booed when the ball didn't get put out.
I think most people did exactly the same in an attempt to pressure Everton to put the ball out seeing as they were lining up an attack at the time... Anything to try and ensure they didn't score.

There never has been a rule change regarding stopping play for an injury. If serious or head injury then they will stop but no other reason for this. If a player falls over a blade of grass and twists his ankle, deal with it.

I regularly referee kids football and same rules apply. I had no issue with Everton playing on although most of the East Stand around me did.

Well yes, which they had every right to do and I would hope we would do the same thing.

I boo pointless threads that raise issues that have already been raised causing the same points to be recycled.

Are you of the opinion....

a) All booing is wrong and does nothing but ruin team performance.

or

b) Having paid my money I can boo who I like when I like.

or

c) It's all panto.

So for this thread....BOOOOOOO

Sorry, I meant change of emphasis in that it was accepted practice to kick it out until a year or so ago.

I never boo any of our players as it is pointless

I always boo Johnson because he is an ugly, diving sh*t faced c*nter who normally scores against us.

Not this time though you horrid little man.

Sure, I'd expect them to get up and run it off. But when a player stays down for too long and leaves us with ten men, something's got to be done about it. i.e. let a Reading player boot it out of play.
