Players rarely ask to be transfer listed as this usually means giving up the right to any outstanding bonuses/signing on fees owed to them.
It's not hard to work out the maths though....
Any outstanding bonuses will be minimal at the start of a season, unless there are 'loyalty' payments, which a player deserves to lose if they try to force a move.
If West Ham are (say) doubling the wages of a player he woul dneed to be on one hell of a bonus to make it worth missing out on the move,
Signing on fees would be paid by the club who are signing the player, not the club he is leaving.
The point was that Me seemed so certain Shorey was suicidal at the propespect of not joiningthe WHU gravy train, Coppell has said that any player who wants to go just needs to say so yet the silence is deafening. Economically it makes no sense for a player NOT to ask for a move when it would be to a club that chucks money around like they print it....
Signing on fees and loyalty bonuses may still apply to Shorey. Don't forget he signed a new contract last season and it could be that the signing on fee's for that are staggered depending on length of service etc.
Basically it's impossible for us to second guess the clauses, add ons and bits and pieces of contracts for individual players because they are so complicated and I'd suspect individual.
It's true that you very rarely get players handing in transfer requests these days, and the general consensus is that it's for financial reasons. If Joey Barton can be owed £300k from Man City in outstanding bonuses then I'm sure Shorey could be in a similar situation.
Even if the new salary far outweighs the outstanding payments I can't see a player or an agent just dismissing them for the sake of handing in a transfer request over sitting tight and letting the press do it for them.
