ArfnipIsARoyal As much as I hate to say it, I can see Shorey leaving before tomorrow nights deadline. Bid has been declined, but it is only a matter of time before WHU or Newcastle (insert numerous other interested clubs) offer a sum that both the club and the Mad Man himself cant turn down. I believe around £8m would be the 'hand-bite-off' sum. West Ham have not spent too much in relation to what they have gained, so adding an extra £2m-£3m isnt really an issue to them. I hope I am wrong as this would be the first player I would be genuinely gutted had left in a long time. Unfotunately they have money to burn, can afford bigger wages, but we dont. Football is a money game now, loyalty isnt.

we might not be able to match the wages, but we can the transfer fees. SSC has said that Mr Mad will back him with whatever he wants - but finding the right player who then wants to come to us is the issue. If we want to keep Shorey, i can see us turning down loads of money. Playing for Reading hasnt stopped his England appearances, and if we are fair, even if he played for WHU, if Cole or Bridge are fit, they'll automatically be ahead of him. He needs to sign a new deal - better play for "tiny" reading in the fapl regularly than go to a "big" club and not get regular footie. I bet he recognises that and stays - especially if we go and make some interesting buys in the next 24 hrs

Coppell's Right Footed 11 [. I hope he's playing for us on Saturday, let's see."

Did Shorey play last week ?

Not such a big deal if you consider fitness...

And completely forget about context.

No, it's about balance.

If you consider his fitness AND the situation with failed bids you can see the comment to be at best ambiguous.
It's amazing how people seem unable to consider more than one possibility at a time.....

I hope he goes now.

Ever since he was interviewed on sky sports and came out and said he was going to 'wait and see', the writing has been on the wall.

I'd rather pay my money to watch players that want to play for us - which Shorey clearly doesn't regardless of what happens in the next 24 hrs

Yeah, like Sidwell wasn't a committed performer for us last season.

I think you are playing 100% with yourself.

^ million is the same as six million plus Mullins though.

I can see Coppell saying 'Ok, £5 million if you keep Mullins'....

Of course Shorey will leave, I'd say it won' t be tomorrow though.

I would be very surprised if SC left RFC without a specialist left back who was ready to play in the Premier league.
Goldbourne is not yet ready.

I can still see no chance of Shorey leaving tomorrow.

It would be pointless selling him at this stage. Even if we wanted to sell him we would wait til January when clubs are desperate and will pay over the odds. By then we will have good idea if we are a/ going to be mid table, b/ relegated or c/ in Europe. If a/ there is some chance we may sell. If b/ we will be desperate to keep him and if c/ he may even sign an extended contract.

As for his commitment I believe that when the speculation is all over Shorey will go back to playing well. I honestly think if he is fit and plays Saturday then he will have a great game and show the cheating barstewards of West Ham what they are missing.

I can't see Shorey going tomorrow now. What's more likely to happen is that SC will give Wet Sham first shout in January (for the right price) and use the time up until then looking for a replacement. Quite clearly Goldbourne is not yet ready.

It's Golbourne, not Goldbourne. That's really getting on my nerves.

This is the bit that worries me

'Speaking in a video interview that is live on Reading World now, the boss commented, "I'd be happy with no deals, I'll say that, but circumstances are dictating we may do something.

"There's a certain amount of activity going on behind the scenes, so something may happen but it may not.

"If it doesn't, I'll be reasonably happy."

Seems to suggest that its out of his hands. Maybe Mr Mad has said 'If they offer £7m for Shorey we take it.' Or maybe Shorey has said 'Pay me £30k a week and I'll stay', but, despite Coppell pleading on Shorey's behalf, Mr Mad has said no.

What worries me most is that Coppell may be thinking 'I don't need this' (he's looked rattled and un-Coppell like in interviews after the last 2 games) and 'Maybe its time to go cos I can take this club no further.'

He could quite easily also be talking about the current injury situation and the need to bring players in to cover that esp if Little remains a way away from fitness.

Take a deep breath and relax - you'll feel so much better.
