Stranded You may not have done re: Sidwell but there were certainly many on here going down the old "He wasn't that good anyway" route on virtually every thread where his name was mentioned.

It's a very common thing for fans to do and I'm not surprised some (not all) Fulham fans are doing it re Rosenior and lauding landing Seol as a great bit of business.

But I think our reaction to Seol leaving is due to the lack of effort he put in. This is different to the reaction to Sid going. People like Woodcote Royal's pride was obviously hurt by (perhaps our best) player leaving and thus the (somewhat) silly posts. I think that both us and Fulham fans are right about the players we have lost. However I think that Rosenior is young enough and is willing to learn and develop as a player. I think that Seol hasn't been like that for the last five years. I think that's why we have the better deal.

Aren't Seol and Rosenior two completely different players anyway, so it was never a case of a straight swap in postional terms?

Correct - they management must have believed that we had a greater need for a right-sided defender than a right-sided winger.

Are we sure this transfer actually happened? Soccerbase don't seem to know about it.

Would be a bizarre deal if they were actually the same player ! But I get your drift...

Definitely a subtle rearranging of the balance of the squad. Rosenior operates up and down the right side whereas Seol operates across the front line.

Coppell obviously feels we have enough up top (ie Doyle can operate on the right as well)

Do we really have the luxury of talent that allows us to play people there that can operate though? Our good form last season was based on two specialist wingers, not someone that played a handful of games there for the equivalent of a lower league level.

True but it seems that Coppell is chancing his hand on Little coming back soon enough (otherwise someone needs to be signed in January).

I'm slightly worried by the gambling habit that Sir Steve appears to have developed recently, particularly when soon after placing the bet (relying on his current squad and undertaking precious little incoming transfer activity in the window) he expresses the view that he might have made a mistake!

If this other gamble on Little fails to come up trumps (and at present there don't appear to be many positive indicators) it's an awful long time with a lot of points at stake until January.

Yes it is all rather worrying. As I have said Oster or Doyle are going to have to do their best for the time being over there. Or we could bring Convey in on the left and play Hunt on the right?

or is coppell perhaps giving the same players a psychological kick up the arse by making it clear that if they continue ala the last two games then some changes will be made in january

Rosenior must be the guy Coppell wants on the right. It makes no sense that we signed him as cover for Murty. I'm sure he will eventually be our right back, but for now Coppell must see him as a winger. What worries me is Rosenior seems very much a right footed Hunt, Hunt is obviously Coppell's favourite player, so we're gonna be playing with two wingers who don't have a great final ball. Personally I'd play Convey, but cannot see Coppell dropping Hunt.

As for Little coming back, we can only pray, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Which leaves us with a real lack of creativity down the right, except for Oster, who even when Coppell obviously had real problems with Seol, still couldn't get picked.

hunts final ball looked ok in the 1st few matches, drawing many complimentary comments from previous hunt haters on here
in my eyes he has added a bit of class to his bustle.
plus rosinior could be oxf*rd great
plus Fae could sparkle in the middle, and give us the spark and ball retention we have been missing for years.

we just dont know

Relying on signings in January to turn things around is the biggest gamble going. I'd be hugely disappointed if we signed someone in the right wing position then, it would beg the question of why we didn't get them in before the first window had closed. I can't imagine a lot of players would drop in price between now and then, a team floundering in the bottom six of the table would probably prove an even larger barrier for the vlub to get over to convince players to join as well. I just can't help but still feel we missed the boat at the start of this season by refusing to pay out large transfer fees/wages and that it could result in our relegation

I dontthink transfer fees are of a concern for us - we were going to fork ourt 5million for Lescott and Seol and 4.5 million for Scott Broan

however - to coin a phrase - wages are most definitely a problem for us.

thats not really what i was saying though

its just more likely to be the motivational tool he has chosen to use to get these players back on form, and focused on whats needed

It wasn't down to money, Coppell said so. He made the decision the squad as it is, is good enough. It is a massive risk, but to be fair to Coppell he always makes his doubters look silly.

Very worrying about Little from Coppell in The Times today, basically saying he's hit a glass ceiling and can't go any further, Coppell doesn't know when or if Little will get over these problems. Which makes the decision not to sign anyone even more of a risk and one that really seems unnecessary.

I'm not 100% sure what the current situation with loans is. Pretty sure all this emergency BS only applies to the football league though.
