I find it highly ironic that he's waiting until after the Arsenal game to before attempting to trade in his season ticket.

That wigan author is spot on about No 13, Reading Fans anywhere. That is singularly the gayest thing our club has ever done.... Including those rumblestix things.. It makes me cringe every time I hear it.. (which isn't often as I dont go to home games much)..

No, the Rumblestix didn;t come from Pardew.
They actually came from a guy in China who had the patent on them and was trying to flog them to sports team in the UK. He phoned the club on spec and BB managed to persuade him to send us a huge batch for nothing to try and promote them.

Whether that was a good idea or not is open to debate (OK, maybe not !), but it was a one off that was offered to the club.

IIRC they then stuck them in the Young Royals packs the year after but the game where loads were handed out happened as described above.

One thing on the fan debate not mentioned so far is our drummer - he is often highlighted as the worst bit of support. I did notice that in the recent England games there was a drummer in the crowd - does that make England fans plastics as well?

I actually defended our club against every opposition supporter who called us plastic, in the end I realised it was me that was wrong and they were right. Football is no longer enjoyable to me, its predictable, money orientated and I don't like the sort of people I see in the Reading concourse these days. Its no longer about getting pissed with your dad and mates, travelling up and down the country and seeing some traditional historical characteristic grounds, going mental when you scored with like minded people around you. Its about happy clapping high priced games in all seater stadiums where bear is banned and standing will get you kicked out. No soul to any of the plastic grounds you visit either. Thats not the reason I was attracted to the game. If you're all happy yourselves with what its become fair enough, whatever makes you happy, but the game in england is dead to me.

well said completly agree apart from the game being dead to me, i'll never stop supporting reading but it would be good to have some passion back in the club

if everything stayed the same the world would be a dull place full of bored people.

you have to accept the evolution and if it isn't for you, then move on.

evolution doesn't always mean better but that's the way it's worked for millions of years and no one is going to change that.

in 20 years time football will be vastly different...that's not necessarily a bad thing. it's different now to when the first leagues were put together.

we all like to reminisce, but i feel sad for you that you can't or won't move on. you probably find jim davidson and roy chubby brown amusing.

I don't really care about the demographic of the support, the only thing of any real interest to me is what happens on the pitch. If your sole reason to go to football is to get pissed then I'd suggest perhaps staying in town might be a more cost-effective way of spending your Saturday.

Spot on. What the f--- is "Bring it on?" I could have died of embarrassment that day. Miserable old git? Not quite but football ain't what it used to be.
Unfortunately though, I was born in this town, so were a fair few generations before me, I've seen Reading in every division of the Football League and much as the hurt me, they know I'll be back, the sods. So they will continue to take my money... I'm sure a good lawyer could do something about this. "Been hurt in an accident that wasn't your fault?" Don't get me wrong - I still enjoy the social side, meeting up with some good, like-minded friends and I have a degree of sympathy for Daniella's viewpoint. But above and beyong everything else I am mainly fussed about what happens on the pitch, and for all our bleating on these portals recently (and I am most certainly guilty of this bleating) I am generally very satisfied by what I ahve seen over the last 7 years or so.

I find the constant need to analyse our support a bit tiresome. Our support is pretty much the same as any club outside the top dozen or so clubs in that interest and atmosphere will fluctuate with the team's performance. I have probably summed up in one sentence there what so many of you have tried so very hard to explain for so very long.

As Finch said, Reading is a dead end club. Last season was as good as it will get. A few seasons of treading water and then slowly sinking back to the lower leagues awaits. At the very best all we'll amount to is a mid table Premiership side who hopes to win the LOLeague Cup, although even that is unlikely as our manager doesn't give a sh1t about either cup competitions.
