Brain-numbing PA system

I read a few comments about the loudness of the PA system in the Wigan match threads so I thought maybe we could gather them here and see how widespread the distress was. My ears are still bleeding.

Leave aside the modern concept that nobody these days can go through a moment of silence in case they get bored. It's the volume of it. Before the match it totally kills any chance of the crowd building up an atmosphere. And half-time was excruciating. My brother was over here from Portugal and we were watching our first game together for two years. So we wanted to chat about things, the match experience, how the game was going, comparing the game with games in Portugal and of course his love life. We couldn't. The "chat" consisted of putting my mouth up to his ear and shouting at him. The fact that he had his hands over his ears made it all the harder.

Even when not entertaining a long-lost brother I prefer half-time to be 10-15 minutes of quiet chat about the game or the price of eggs or whatever. This desire to assault our ears non-stop prevents any of this. Surely they have got to either give it and us a rest or turn the bloddy volume down. People moan about leaving EP. The PA there was brilliant - you couldn't hear it.

I have my headphones on listening to the BBCRB during half time and can still hear the PA and cannot hear the radio without pressing the ear piece down hard, even at full volume.

This suggests it is too loud.

From previous threads about the PA it's always seemed like it's only us in the UWest who get deafened, and the other stands can hardly hear it at all. On Saturday it appears that it was way too loud for everybody.

It's bad enough having to put up with 'Play Your Shirts Right', but to be completely unable to talk to the folks around you at half-time because of the sheer volume of the PA is just not on.

I know the acoustics change during times when the stadium is filled compared to when it's empty, but surely they could go around and check the volume levels when there isn't a game on to see just how loud it is. Anyone with half an ear could tell it was way to loud on Saturday.

Absolute sh*te half time "entertainment" his bad enough but when it's so loud that most of those around you have their fingers in their ears, I don't think a repeat performance will be taken so lightly....................get it sorted!!!

Actually, that reminds me - the one advantage of the overloud PA was I couldn't hear Woodcote moaning about half-time on Saturday

There was an announcement made during the game on Sat against Wigwam, didn't hear any of it bar the the bell sound at the start.

However, when The Voice speaks pre match and at HT, clear as a bell.

I think it depends on where you sit, Rows A and KK are quieter as the speakers are aimed to the middle of the stand - Row Z

It is awful in KK and I therefore dread to think what it is like in Row Z! We really need to find a way to communicate getting it turned down

Take a loudhailer up to the control room and make the request that way.

They manage to be quiet when announcing the away teams and announcing the away team scorer. That annoys me more than the volume at half time to be honest. I know they're doing it because they don't want to excite the away fans, but really, they are already excited as they've just scored a goal! And I don't always know who it is that has scored for the away teams especially when it's in front of the south stand. This week was the worst I've ever (not) heard. You could barely hear him mumbling. Sort it aaat!

Couldn't understand a word of the annoucement in the West Lower, wasn't clear at all.

The pre-game music was too loud, as was Play your shirts right.

Safety announcements should be loud and clear, this is acceptable. Anything else should be quiet enough that you have to make an effort to listen to if that's what you want.

Wasn't it Pardew's idea to play really loud music before the game? I think he believed it would get the crowd going.

Personally, I prefer to stay on the concourse than listen to really loud rubbish music. Turn it down!

Totally agree with the comments above. Ridiculously loud and inane.

Taking up smoking never looked so appealing...
