Photos from Elm Park's last game...the day before

by Ark Royal » 24 Sep 2007 19:31

Hi Everyone

This is my last batch for today.

These photos are among my best of Elm Park. Taken the day before the very last game v Norwich in '98. It was a beautiful day and the place was deserted. I do not think I captured a single soul in any of the photos that I took that day.

My next batch (probably tomorrow) will be of the final game itself.

Enjoy.

Reminded me what a dump it was.

Great memories... but Good Riddance.

PS used to use the 'Boys entrance' in the Town End

Think it used to cost me 2/-. Remember having to ask my Mum for extra when it went up to 2/6d!

Gordons Cumming I miss that place.

I think fondly of it the same way I think about my first car (a beat up old mini)... Great memories, but I don't want to go back.

Thanks for the pics Ark, they're fab. Been far too few decent pics of Elm Park over the years and these are very memorable. Looking forward to seeing the last game pics, and maybe seeing me! Mind you, if you were in the Tilehurst end I guess I won't be in them as I was in that end too...

I was only 7 when we left and to be honest I've always wanted to go back. Had a certain element to it and even to this day can remember the smell of the bogs.

I'll always remember the burgers from the corner van inside the ground. Nothing like them.

Never had any trouble with stewards at Elm Park either...

I always used to stand for a piss in the Tilehurst End trough under a certain stalactite that slowly grew over the years. It was still there on the final day. We were very close...
