mzungu_royal although i'd love to see Kitson playing for England, he's already said he's not interested. But yes, he would a quality player for England and he'd do us Royals very proud (well he'd do me proud, don't know about the rest of the nobbers). Another thing, if Pearce (U21 manager) had picked him for the U21 WCup, perhaps McClaren would've taken notice but until Kitson is hitting the net (back of it, not side netting) and getting around 20 goals, he's got no chance in heaven. Would love to see another Royal in the England team.

He didn't say he wasn't interested, he said he wasn't good enough. If he gets an opportunity I doubt he'd turn it down.

Also how exactly was Kitson going to get picked for the U21's he's about 26!

Watch as Kitson goes with his usual style scoring pretty much every other game.

Being the optimist, I believe that Kitson will be the player to gets us through this dark patch. If he keeps scoring, we will get better and he will get some recognition. Would need one hell of season to get in the England squad though.............

Kitson is quality and has been since we signed him, but seriously is playing for England really a positive for us as a club? I can only see negative's...

I'll admit my tune has changed over the past year with regard to playing for England being a negative thing.

Stop shouting around Kitson's name otherwise he may get call-up.
We can't afford to lose more players to national teams.
We need to be greedy and have some secret weapons in our locker. We have been sussed so far this season so Kitson is our hope to keep us in this division.

Without getting into the debate about Kitson, Kevin Nolan has been putting in class performances for a few seasons, which has been much noted in the media, and yet he still doesn't have an England cap. I'm not suggesting he's better than Gerrard or Hargreaves, but he certainly has deserved to be called up ahead of the likes of Jenas.

Whatever managers say, there is no doubt that players will continue to be called up predominantly from the "top" clubs, regardless of an individual's form. On that basis, I doubt Kitson has much chance - maybe a Nugent-like consolation cap as a late sub in a second-rate friendly?

For what it's worth, Ashton is ahead of Kitson on form, IMO, at the moment, but I wouldn't rule it out in the future. At 27 already, though, he may be superceded by younger players before he has built up the reputation/experience necessary to get noticed. Anyway, his knees are so crocked, we need him to have those rest periods every month or so.

If Kitson were to be called up [and fwiw I think he would do well] he would prbably only get the call in the New Year. At which time I would expect him to be the ONLY Royal in the England team.....

Diddyroyal
Royal Rother Go back in time a couple of years and you'd find exactly the same reaction to the early "Shorey for England" threads.

Kitson will never play for England

Give an injury to Crouch, an injury to Ashton and a longer run of goals and he might get considered.

He'll need to get the press supporting him and that's key.

Its the only positive from the last few games (yup, wigan accepted). At the start of the season, he was rightly doubted as, as AP pointed out, he'd not looked like scoring last season. And that's right.

So its nice to see someone come good.

Quite hard to score when you're injured or just back from injury.

If Shorey keeps playing like he is (and McCartney keeps playing well for West Ham) then I can see him going nowhere and his England berth disappearing.

Indeed, with Bridge now fit I'm not sure they will go with 3 left backs in the squad. Nicky may need to rely on Cole getting crocked - not unlikley !!

Withthis thread in mind, I mentioned Kits to Steve McClaren tonight (yes, I know, "Look at me"!)

The exact conversation was :
Me "I hope you're keeping an eye on Dave Kitson - he's on fire now he's fit."
SMcC : "Yes, he's doing very well, isn't he?"

Which is, of course, probably the standard answer he gives to all such comments!

He'll be a long way down the pecking order unfortunately, but he does appear to be the top scoring English Premier League Striker at the moment !

Although it is unlikely that Kitson will get a call up, there's no harm in singing it at the match on Saturday. It's just a way of letting him know that we all appreciate what he's doing for us at the moment.

And, it worked for Shorey!

If "working" means making sure he spent a couple of weeks with players of other clubs, all of whom were able to tell him all the time just how much better their club was and just how much more money they were earning each week - then you're right.

How long is never? Please define never? Please provide your qualifications to say that Kitson will NEVER play for England?

Less than 18months ago a mong on here mentioned the word NEVER when responding to a thread about a Reading player in the existing squad one day playing for England.

Do you see where I'm going here Diddly diddly dee...? I'll spell it out for you, you can't say never because you can't say that over the next 3-4 years that Kitson will never play for England unless you have a magical crystal ball and can see so far into the future....

Oh, and you are a twat and probably gay too...
