rg6royal why is Phil Neville even in the England squad?
by Oi Oi Saveloy » 13 Oct 2007 18:22
mzungu_royal Nicky Shorey does deserve a bench place but not a place in the first XI. He's not been performing well for club so he only desires a place on the bench for England.

Agree and as much as I hate to say it, he has looked out of his depth at international level IMO.

That Friday FeelingBarry the bird boggler If Shorey isn't on the bench does that mean he's picked up an injury or is mcLOLaren just being a twonk?
There's no need for a specialist left-back on the bench if you have a "Lescott"

readingtillidieRoyal Rother I've been on this forum for 6 years or so now and obviously significantly above the average age, but these days the more I read the more I realise what an immature, obnoxious, sexist and unpleasant bunch of morons support Reading Football Club.
not all of us are like that on here thats a bit harsh

Whilst I am delighted that McCLown deems Shorey unworthy of even a place on the bench (the more national exposure he gets..the bigger his boots will be), the alternatives that are served up are from the team of 5 years ago (passionless and proven failures)...at 3-0 up, if you cannot field anyone more inspiring than a Neville.........then when will you?Alan Partridge Whilst not to get caught up with the NONCE SENSE on this thread. What has Shorey done this season to warrant a call up? Why should he play instead of Everton's captain and a very underrated player at that. Neville has 60 caps or so but of course he's hopeless. Each and every single one of you know if he was at Reading a) he would walk into our side and probably be captain and b) you'd all be screaming for him to play for England. The sheer biased, blinkered views on here are laughable at times.
Shorey has been part of a quite frankly awful defence for the most part and his performances have been well down on last years efforts. He has done absolutely nothing to deserve being in the squad.
When he has played he's done OK, 6 out of 10's in every game. But nothing to special to deserve starting or being 2nd choice. It won't be long before Leighton Baines takes that spot anyway.

..and Talksport said that we had two lucky goals against a pub team.Ian Royal Phil Neville came on and looked poor. Lescott came on and looked very poor. If Neville didn't play at Left back tonight he's hardly likely to be playing at left back on wednesday and with Lescott's poor showing you'd have to hope he won't either.
Shorey hasn't been great this season, but he has got more international experience against high quality teams than Lescott and is a LB specialist You'd think that would put him up the pecking order.
In an ideal world Cashley will be fit, but that looks unlikely. I think it could go either way as to whether Shorey plays. Either way it's not a great choice.
Didn't Lampard look utter gash when he came on!? And I didn't think that much of J Cole either, though at least he passes to ashley.
Shearer surprisingly got it right. In the first half we played well because all of the pairs played together properly. We had balance all over the pitch. Great to see. There is hope yet.

all three were lucky - poor keeping for the first.
But then if you want to you can analyse any goal and decide there was an element of 'luck' about it.

Has he?
He more than held his own against Brazil for a start. He has neither set the international world a light (how many defenders do?) nor has he looked out of his depth IMO.

Behindu Was he at fault for the goal where Robinson hacked it off his toes ?
Cole never started passing to him so hard to see how he coul dhave stopped !!
And given that Cole didn;t pass to him he would have been hard pressed to hit many crosses !
Shorey's been a 6 in the games he's played - nothing special, but done nothing wrong. Hasn;t forced himself into the strating line up but done nothing to suggest he shoul dbe dropped. Will need to up his game if he wants to become a fixture though.
