Huddlestone isn't really a realistic target is he.

There are a few clubs who go after him if he became available.

Derby would be straight after him for a start.
Then you got Boro, Brum, Fulham, Sunderland, Bolton who would all likely be after him with more chance of getting him than us.

I'm sure teams like Celtic & Rangers would also be interested in a lad like Huddlestone.

I doubt we could realistically even get Huddlestone to sign for us permanently. If you asked Huddlestone if he'd be prepared to join Reading he would probably laugh in your face!

I don't agree. For a start how do you know all those clubs you mention would be after a central midfielder? He isn't getting games at Spurs, whereas he would with us. We can match Birmingham, Fulham, Sunderland, Bolton, Boro and Derby. So yes he is a realistic target. If he isn't then you are basically saying that no reserve player in the Premiership is a realistic target for us.

Top Flight The candidates are as follows:

-Tim Cahill
-Mikel Arteta
-Juninho (Lyon player)

I'm assuming they were tongue-in-cheek suggestions, otherwise I suggest you need a reality check.

Who else is good enough to replace Sidwell?

I wasn't questioning who is good enough to replace Sidwell. I was questioning whether those were tonge-in-cheek suggestions in terms of realism.

Just remember we are talking about Reading here.

They were tongue in cheek suggestions. After that I put a more realistic list of Championship prospects together. Although no one from that list really stands out.

Personally I would still like to see Tom Huddlestone join us. Not an attacking midfielder as such but he would certainly improve the defensive qualities of our midfield that have been severely lacking this season. He is also a realistic target due to his lack of games for Spurs and due to the amount of central midfielders that SPurs have on their books.

Hasn't he been absolutely turd when he's played for them over the las 7 or 8 months?

I'm not basically saying that at all.........

Some Prem reserve players are higher profile than others. Such as Steven Sidwell, Tom Huddlestone. Scott Parker when he was at Chelsea.
Louis Saha, Shaun Wright-Philiips, Jermaine Pennant.

We are not realistically in the market for any of those sorts of players are we.

Now the pompey lad Mendez. He might be a more realistic target if he is now out of favour at Pompey!

Amusing that you include Sidwell and Huddlestone in the bracket as Saha and Wright-Phillips.

I don't know why people have this impression that Sidwell is God, for me he drifted in and out of games like Fae does just wth the benefit of 4 seasons worth of experience playing alongside Harper.

His partnership with Harps was the reason our midfield was so strong the last couple of years, that kind of relationship takes time to build. He's gone now so please please get over it, he won't be coming back. Support our current players (Fae and Cisse) and give them the time to prove that they are capable.

All the Championship midfielders listed would add sod all to our team. We need to invest from abroad, perhaps Scotland (similar style of play) or Eastern Europe.

Janaury will very much be a case of taking what we can get. The summer was the time to improve the team, we could have got the likes of Kightly and O'Neill then. Not in January.

Ivan Sproule from Bristol City looks very good. Very quick right winger. But no guarantee at all he's any better than Oster or even Rosenior. And with the £60m you getting for being in the Prem, Bristol City just won't sell.

Signing Mullins would show complete panic. Just signing someone for the sake of it. How many holding midfielders do we already have??

In an ideal world, Kevin Nolan to give some attacking strength in midfield.

Pipedream as he'd never come and WMBAP
