floyd__streete Over defence have conceded an average of 4.67 goals in each of our last 3 away trips. Great work lads!

Maybe it would have better after all if Wally had turned down that offer of a new contract!

I think questions have to be asked of Mr Downes at the moment given the amount of leakage........

For two years we've flourished on a back five that was available today (and last week) but not played. I understand Ivar's been off form, but isn't the best hope for stemming the tide to give Sonko and Ivar a chance to re-form their partnership? I wouldn't underrate the significance of their close friendship in their past success.

Before today, it was well over a year since Fulham won a league game by more than 1 goal.

Chaney
Katie Marsden Don't worry, Nicky Hammond is on the case scouring the non league scene for a bargain or two.

Madejski must be laughing, all that extra income and we're still doing things on the budget of a Championship side.

very true Im afraid, Ide love to know where all that extra cash is going

Apparently its sat in JM's account waiting for SC to spend it...

To be honest, I don't think it's the centre backs that are at fault. Murty and Shorey just don't seem to be on the same wavelength this season, letting far too many players get in behind them unmarked. Murts had a shocker today, got rinsed quite a few times. Doobs was one of our better performers

And the last goal was simple for Healy as there was no right back at all. Murty had been replaced by Long.

He was insulted by the offer.

Best defensive coach in the league.

Apparently.

To be fair Coppell could have helped him out by signing a Premiership class defender in the last two seasons.

Wally Downes can fcuk off after what he said bout holloway when he was at wimbledon, and the fact that our defence has been shite this season means he can fcuk off even more. rant over

I agree - think Duberry played quite well. Murty used to be good as he could get up and down and provide quality crosses. He's not even doing that now so I think Rosenior should probably come in for him. As to Shorey we cannot replace him as he's our most creative player - some of the crosses he hit yesterday were great and he's the one getting the assists (Newcastle second goal, our goal yesterday etc).

Rosenior at right back over Murty would definitely be an improvement. Hopefully Cisse will be playing at centre mid instead of Gunnar soon. With those guys out - our defence would be innumerably better imho.

You can if you like - why change the habit of a lifetime?

Me - I'm just hapy that despite some very obvious weaknesses we are still accumulating enough points to stay at the top of our own mini-league.

I should have dug it up at 4.55 yesterday.

Okay here you are then chaps. This is where most of your reactionary rubbish should go.

Poor performance today but to be fair to us Villa's first 2 goals were dodgy to say the least.

Only a real optimist would have anticipated us getting a point at Villa, so it changes nothing really. The fact we are highly unlikely to get any more points in January also won't change anything.

We still need 4 or 5 more wins and a draw or 2 to be safe, and we will pick up most of those against the teams in our own mini-league, not against the (by comparison) super-rich clubs in the top 2 mini leagues, especially away from home.

What is of course worthy of more debate (and I'm sure it will get it) is the selection today.

Reports have been very positive about Alex Pearce; on occasions the time is right to chuck young players in at the deep end and today, surely, with only 1 other fit central defender available, was that day. Although the first 2 goals were dodgy, a decent central defender might well have dealt with them.

It really does make sense to defer to Coppell's superior knowledge (even I don't know better than him) so I suppose we should believe that he thinks Pearce is not up to it yet...

Verrrry disappointing though.

I don't think it does. Coppell is a football manager after all, not Vladimir Putin. We have struggled all season, and problems highlighted by nobbers in the summer have played themselves out since August. I can admit that frustration I feel in the results is as much borne out of our inadequate preparation in the summer as the woeful tactics and selections now.

Management at this club simply cannot be pro-active, and I don't understand it.

im not sure the answer is putting in a 19yr old for his 1st start away against one of the best attacking teams outside of the big 4.
having said that other than buying a class centre back who slots straight in to steaady us at the back i have no solution either
