Worst game ever against a team from a lower division...

My local team CheltenhamTown outplayed Reading and were unlucky to only draw 1-1 thanks to Trevor Morley's equaliser which went under Steve Book's (Cheltenham keeper) body.
It was a poor game and Reading were pretty dire. The weather was crap and I could hardly see the game at a packed and very small Whaddon Road.

Thats my local team as well, and as a Cheltenham resident I was there in the Reading end, chanting sheep-shaggers to the folk of Cheltenham. Then after the match walked home listening to the said folk calling Reading fans a bunch of pricks for thinking Cheltenham is near Wales, agreeing with them but pointed out 'they' were being ironic. "Ironic, where's that to mate?" was the reply. How I laughed (to myself). So much irony for one night.

That was a good game - I was sitting in the main stand next to Gareth Davies's mum! God was I glad I was under cover that night!

We were pretty awful when we needed a replay to beat Robin Friday's Hayes - I was unlucky enough to be at both games. Also Brentwood away was as dire as a Saturday night in Portsmouth.

Memories Of India I'll toss in a mention for Slough Town away in 1991 - we conceded two goals in injury time in a 3-3 draw. Travelling support approx. 200, one of whom memorably appeared on MOTD, on the field of play celebrating a Reading goal wearing his clapped out leather jacket and Zodiac Mindwarp t-shirt

I don't remember that being such a bad game. Away was pretty packed as I recall but probably didn't hold much.

I do remember the tannoy announcer coming on after our 3rd to say "Will the Reading fans please stop jumping up and down behind the goal, you are wrecking the ground" - then a wall promptly collapsed IIRC.

Surely you can't forget the Welling Marathan in 1989.

Went to a 3rd replay and we only managed a twice taken penalty in 330 minutes against non league opponents. 4 matches of total rubbish.

Notts County at home in 1989 was pretty rubbish, even provoked a sit in.

The end of the 1990 season with stuffings from the likes of Shrewsbury amongst others was another time to forget.

I went to this game they scored in the last minute when a fat bearded pub landlord midfielder curled it in from the edge of the box just when it looked like we may have escaped with a draw. Our first home defeat to non league opposition happy days.

Sorry, but they weren't in a lower division at the time.

If this is meant to promote a whoosh it's a pretty poor effort.

I think there were a fair few more than 200 from Reading that day, MOI :? . My first ever away game - I was 12 years old - and my dad moved us from behind the throng of Reading fans fighting amongst each other behind the goal for reasons which to this day escape me (the reasons for the fight escape me that is, not being moved).

All usurped by our 1-0 Auto Windscreens Shield victory over Leyton Orient in 1999/00, played in our orange away kit in front of 1,500 people.

Quite a team we put out.

Howie, Gurney, Bernal (Evers), Primus, Polston, Potter (Sarr), Smith, Bowen, Caskey (Crawford), Williams, Brayson

Jesus Christ. That is some heap of shite. I had got out of hospital after having my appendix out that day, and was advised to 'avoid strenuous activity' for a couple of weeks. Needless to say there wasn't much to get strenuous about in that match.

Stadium was deathly quiet.
