How does Reading's European scouting system work?

by Cripple Creek » 19 Nov 2007 08:40

Out of interest do we just rely on videos or does Nicky go to places like Scandanavia, the Czech Republic, Poland, Romania to watch players? If this isn't the case I think our scouting system would really benefit from investing in scouts to keep the club alert to some of the superb players playing for some fairly anonymous clubs in Central Europe.

We've also got links with people who live and work in various places. Can't recall his name but there is an English ex pro who lives in France and scouts for us (Ty Gooden ?). We've also got people in Scandanavia.

McDermott and Hammond do travel (McDermott was at the last African Nations), their trips are often referred to on the OS.

I would assume we agents offering players as well, and we may follow that up. As I understand we did with a certain gk when we used to play at Wembley, sending a video for his information, for the plastics it was where we played before the Madstad.

We just type in 'decent foreign players world" into Google. Mr Mad has a strong dislike for expense.

I also hear there is extensive playing of Championship Manager to identify future talent.

I've been reliably told that McDermott keeps his right ear to the ground.

Best method apparently.
