As shown on another thread Lita has just about the lowest goals to games ratio of any established striker we've had in the last 30 years, so he will be no big loss.

If we get £4m for him and spend it on a central midfielder who can create something for Kitson and Doyle to work with then it will have been a damned fine piece of business.

Not really we'd need to replace him as a striker, Doyle is struggling a little and Kitson is massively injury prone. Long makes a decent sub, Cox is fairly untried, but that would leave us very short upfront.

Reading defender Nicky Shorey remains hopeful of signing a new contract, but has admitted a move to one of the 'top four' is an appealing prospect.

The England left-back remains locked in negations over a new contract with the Royals and is keen to put pen to paper at the Madejski Stadium.

However, the 26-year-old defender has admitted he is flattered by speculation linking him with the big four.

Shorey has made over 250 appearances during seven years with the Royals but has just 18 months left on his existing deal.

"I'm still having talks with Reading and just seeing how that goes," he told Sky Sports News.

"Obviously when January gets nearer there's going to be a lot more speculation. I don't think just about me, but about a lot of players, even at Reading. We will wait and see what happens.

"You want to test yourself at the best, everyone does. If a top-four team comes in and says 'we want you' you'd be lying if you said you didn't want to go.

"But while I'm at Reading I will always give my best. I've enjoyed it here for a long time and I will enjoy it in the future.

"I'm trying to get a contract sorted here and we'll see where that takes us."

Reading between the lines this looks like good news. He is all but saying he will sign unless a big 4 club comes in.

Frankly if a big 4 club did come him - probably realistically only Man Unt would want him - then you really could not begrudge him the move and I for one would wish him well (providing we get at least £5 to £7M).

If no one does come in looks like he will sign again. I think this will be sorted one way or the other by the end of January or shortly afterwards.

Pretty sure that's the case with most contracts anyway, no need for a specific clause...

Shorey must not be paying any attention to the amount of playing time Sidwell is getting at Chelsea. Now that Bollocks is back from injury, Sidwell's moved even further down the pecking order. How many matches would Shorey get at ManUre with Evre is such good form?

Like a large proportion of us, he's married and has a responsibility to his family.
He'll only have a (relatively) short career and would get at least twice the salary. Sitting on the bench may even lengthen his career as there is less chance of injury (splinters apart).

Wait a minute ....... I've said all this dozens of times ....... AND IT'S STILL RELEVANT !!
Good luck to him, whatever he decides, because he's given everything to get us where we are.
